Half-life gamers...a question

OK, I've never played the game and was wondering if I should bother buying it, seeing as how half-life 2 is coming out real soon.

Should I blow 40 bucks on the game now or just wait until HL-2 comes out?

Half-life is one of the best, most challenging, FPS games around. And if you play HL2 first, you'll miss the enjoyment of HL1.

on the cheap as it were. Probably for 20 bucks if you look around.

$40 sounds too high, after all the game is like 4 (?) years old now. But its a n awesome game. And likes been said, you probably wont enjoy HL2 as mich without playing the first one. Im licking my chops for HL2.
