1. I like to watch it on HBO
I don't know anything about the fighters, though, and I don't remember their names.

3. Sadly, no
Thanks, Mike Tyson ... you were the nail in the coffin.

If you want good boxing, you have to catch it on ESPN Classic. I was watching Leonard/Hearns the other day. Now, THAT was a golden era for the sport. Leonard, Hearns, Haggler ... :sigh:

9. I remember watching that fight with
my dad. He was absolutely livid when Liston failed to answer the bell. The champ. Didn't answer the bell!! It wasn't until later I found out that Liston was considered a great fighter. Sure couldn't tell by his performance.

8. My kids are addicted to Classic Bouts

We watched the Leonard/Hearns fight the other night, too. They could not believe what they were seeing. Same for the other night when we watched Ali/Frasier, and today we watched some of a Sugar Ray Robinson fight. I agree that the Leonard/Haggler/Hearns/Duran era was ONE of the golden ages for boxing. I'd have to say that the Ali/Frazier/Foreman era was its equal. Then again, I'm an old guy and remember those fights vividly.

As for the original question, I used to covet HBO "back in the day", but in the almost a decade that I've had it, I have never once watched a single fight. I cannot even remember the last boxing match I was interested in, and I used to be a freak about it to the point that I even read Ring magazine. The sport is about dead.

10. Boxing is the only sport I do follow anymore
I've had it with all the money, politics, phoniness, and lack of loyalty in team sports. Fighting is the only sport I care to follow, even though it also has its share of corruption. The fight between Jean-Marc Mormeck and Wayne Braithwaite (Cruiser weights) a few weeks ago was terrific. The thing I don't like about the fights I see now is the judging. It's frequently very wrong and possibly paid off. You see too many homer decisions or rounds scored for the favorite, when the underdog was landing the better punches.

13. I've always enjoyed the heavyweight bouts
because they are the only ones who can punch with enough power to actually make it interesting.

I also enjoy watching kickboxing and full contact karate, but it's rare I get to watch it because I don't watch TV much any more, and I haven't really sought it out as a live event locally.

My real love used to be professional wrestling, back in the day when it wasn't scripted like a soap opera. My brother used to take me to the matches, and I got to watch such greats as Wilbur Snyder, Dick The Bruiser, The Crusher, The Blackjacks, and so on-- this was back in the sixties. But then it changed, and it got boring, and I stopped watching. Wrestling has been completely ruined.
