Brando’s Godfather secrets up for sale
By Dalya Alberge, Arts Correspondent

MARLON BRANDO’s annotated script from The Godfather, along with handwritten notes on how he created the Mafia boss Don Corleone, are among hundreds of his personal items that are to be sold following his death last year.

“Through the nose,” he scribbled in 1972, preparing for what was to become his most famous role. “High voice. Nose broken early in youth to account for difficulty.”

Brando, whose own nose was broken in the 1940s between acts of A Streetcar Named Desire, is regarded as the most influential actor of the 20th century. The memorabilia gives an extraordinary insight into the man and his approach to acting and is one of the most significant entertainment celebrity estates to have come to auction.

The objects are likely to spark frenzied bidding at Christie’s in New York on June 30, if the Marilyn Monroe sale of 1999 is anything to go by.
