Pope's old car is answer to eBay prayers

A VOLKSWAGEN Golf said to have been registered in the name of Joseph Ratzinger - the new Pope Benedict XVI - is for sale on eBay and bidding has reached the heavens.

The metallic grey model from 1999 went up for auction on the German site at a minimum price of 9900 euros (£6707) on Wednesday. By yesterday, with six days left to run, bids had reached 41,564 euros (£28,160).

Seller Benjamin Halbe, 21, of Olpe, Germany, bought the car from a local dealer in January
