Parties (with no one who is underage) and Hosts Who Hold Car Keys Hostage
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 10:36 AM by bertha katzenengel
Have you ever been to a private party where the price of admission was your car keys?

Whether yes or no, what do you think of that concept?

(Yes, the film "Say Anything" made me think of it. :))

Edited to be clearer -- I mean adult parties. Thanks for the replies about teen parties, though! :7

When I was in high school, a friend's parents held our keys till morning.
Of course, they also provided us with a keg, so there was no complaining. ;)

2. Had some friends who did that over 10 years ago....
the kids had a great time. But someone who wasn't invited turned them in for serving beer to minors.
After the cops got there and found the keys locked in a safe...they told everyone to have a good time. This was in a very rural area with no neighbors nearby, so they weren't bothering anyone.

3. Never done that
although I think it's a great idea.

1) private party / private property - if you choose to go, you accept the terms of the invitation.

2) limits potential liability for the host

4. Good idea
I think it's a good idea for the most part. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing Bars and Restaurants that serve hard liquor do this.

Wanna drink? cough up your keys.

6. "Gimme my Firebird keys!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Nope, never done it. I hope that most of our friends (being liberal) are smart enough to know when they've had enough.

And in the Metroplex, where you have to drive long distances to get EVERYWHERE, people have to judge pretty regularly.

7. Yes I have hosted parties like that.
As a former bartender, I am ADAMANT about people not drinking and driving. People know if they come to my place for a party, they will be served GREAT drinks, but will have to give up their car keys at the door. I have never had any trouble or any complaints so far. I just tell people, "I want you to have fun while you are here, and then make it home alive and without injuring anyone else."

I also offer anyone who wants to, to spend the night, with a promise of a great breakfast in the morning (former professional chef as well).

Peace,
Bella

14. June 25 -- backyard barbecue at our house in So. Maryland.
You could put your tip jar out... at least two women would make use of it, that's for sure. ;)
