1. Too much hype..
they're not nearly as good as they're hyped to be. Just my opinion.

11. I agree.
Too much sugar-but then again, I'm a plain cake donut kind of gal.

16. From what I've sampled I have to agree
too sugary, and not all that tasty.

We have a local donut place that makes homemade donuts. My favorite is still a plain donut to dunk in my coffee. Crispy on the outside, cakey on the inside. Can't beat it.

20. Not much substance either.
I feel like I'm chewing a can of Crisco.

2. Fresh = nirvana. Not fresh = just another donut.

If they're not fresh & warm, I'll even contend they're NOT "just another donut", they're distinctly inferior, over-sugared critters.

5. Hot from the store..
so hot that the glaze is melted into the box. They're good about once per year for me and that's it. I used to work across from one and we had them often.

7. Seems to me they've gone downhill
Last time I had the hot glazed ones, they were smaller and seemed sweeter. But I recently bought some Krispy Kreme cake donuts from the store. They were awful, so greasy I couldn't eat them.

14. I don't like the way they raised their prices after trying to hook us.
I only buy donuts at Rolling Pin these days even though it's further away.

where you could see the assembly line of doughnuts up and down in the glass cases while the dough was rising, swimming in the river of hot oil, going under the sheet of glaze. It was endlessly fascinating.
