Why doesn't Chinese food keep you full?
I had a LOT of Chinese food at about 8pm and I figured I was good for the rest of the night. At about 10:30pm, I started thinking about having a litle something extra - maybe a cookie or two, but I didn't because I knew I had plenty of food and my stomach was full, so if I just ignored the urge eat something, it would disappear.

Well, it's now midnight and I'm HUNGRY! It's not just a munchie attack that can be fixed with some chips or piece of cake ... I'm really hungry! I'm in the mood for some real food, like a sandwich or a burger. WTF?!? I spent my money on a good sized Chinese meal and I feel like I haven't eaten all day! It's late ... I don't feel like cooking anything, LOL! Hmmm ... maybe I have some kind of microwavable crap in the freezer ... I'll have to look.

Why does this only happen with Chinese food?

3. Ooooh ... I found a Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie ...
in the freezer! :bounce:

Has anyone ever had one of these? They're really good! I usually cook it in the microwave for 5 minutes, then pop it in the toaster oven for another 5 -10 minutes, so the crust gets brown.

I know I'm going to regret eating something so filling at this time of night, but screw it ... I'm hungry! :P

6. I picked one up at the store today, they were on sale
the 600 calories from fat made me put it back down.

That's assuming I'm eating all 4 servings

8. Oh, they're not the slightest bit healthy!
But ... it's a nice guilty pleasure to have every once in a while. ;-)

4. Um....maybe you didn't have enough rice/noodles?
That's the usual cause.

7. Chinese veggies are simple carbs that have hardly been processed...
except for a quick swirl in the wok.

Usually, you don't eat a lot of meat when you eat Chinese...you eat rice with some veggies, a few noodles, and a few shrimp.

Protien is what you need. Protein like beef or chicken or pork. But chinese dishes have so little of the three protiens I mentioned above in the dishes that yhou don't get an awful lot.

So, the veggies and grains are simple carbs that can be prcessed right through your gut, leaving behind only the small serving of meat, if you ate any at all.

Protein will stay in your stomach for an hour.

That's the theory I teach my college kids when we talk about Homo hablis and erectus. Once they learned to scavenge or kill meat, they wouldn't have to eat as constantly as they had on a supply of roots, nuts, and stuff. Meat gave them a meal that would sustain them to the extent that they no longer had to spend all day foraging, and now could sit--with a full belly==and undertake specialized crafts. Fire, on which they cooked the meat, gave them exactly what they needed to spread across the Euroasian contients.

Had they stuck with dgging roots and eating vines and nuts for susistance, they weould not iave ever moved far from their local resources.

So you can thank meat and fire for the expansion of homonids all accross the continent.

Wow...I just slopped off into a lecture, and I apologize for that.
