It's that I don't WANT to go to jail. I'm a law-abiding citizen and people who come into the shop and ask me shit like this don't seem to care one bit if I go to jail or if my boss does or if he loses his shop.

A 20 or so year old girl just came in here and told me to "chill out" and "Stop being so uptight," when I explained this to her and asked her to leave.

9. There was a place in this area that closed recently

They had been around for years right downtown. They sold cassettes and vinyl and t-shirts and in the back, all kinds of pipes, waterpipes, papers, screens, etc. A nice, friendly store and very lowkey. I don't know if they were busted by the Ashcroft SS or just pressured out of business or moved. Since Operation Waste of Resources, or whatever it was called, I've wondered what happened to a lot of these mom-and-pop places.

And the * Admin is pursuing a radical Zero Tolerance policy.

I've heard of stores being closed in Idaho and Alabama and North Fl. It puts all of us in the industry on edge and we have to be really careful.

I remember when Ashkroft did his big sweep there were store clerks that were awakened early in the morning. None of these businesses were even asked to stop selling the merchandise. Law enforcement ignored them for years, allowed them to operate as respectable businesses, and then surprised them one day. Many probably didn't even know there was a federal law against that paraphenalia. I certainly didn't know.
In the meantime, the anthrax killer is still at large.

13. I was once with a friend...

... in a store that sold various smoking accessories (as well as some clothing, used CD's, stickers, posters.. the usual)... and this friend kept insisting on making comments about "pot" despite the gentle protests and clear discomfort of the employees. I finally just said "Look, they don't sell stuff to smoke pot with here. That's illegal. Everything in this store is for tobacco, only, okay?" They seemed to get the point and the staff seemed somewhat appreciative.
