2. SE means "Standard Edition."
Windows 98 = Windows 98SE.

Windows ME means "Millinium Edition."

On your computer, Click:

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Help
About Windows

If it says Windows 98, it's Windows 98SE.

I'm 99.99999999999999% sure about this.

4. I'm not so sure about that..
I need to ugrade to Adobe 6 to read a file, but 6 will only run on 98SE and not 98.

5. Incorrect

It actually means "second edition."

It's rare to see the original Windows 98 in use, second edition is pretty much the standard. 98 and 98SE are two different things though.

If you right click on My Computer and go to properties, it will display the info there.

8. Thank you!
R-clicking my compy did the trick.. everywhere else I looked listed it as straight Win98. There it lists it as SE.

Yay I am not doomed and can view my precious file. :D

11. You're welcome :)
I haven't touched a '98 machine in at least 3 years, but some stuff sticks with you (I'm an IT guy by trade, and I work on the things all day long). :)

SE means Second Edition - arguably the least sucky of the win9x OSes.
95->95A-95b->95C->98->98SE->ME

7. I don't know that "arguably" is the right word . . . I'd say
"undoubtedly" is more accurate :)

9. well
I am typing at an old (I'd say 10 years) monitor, connected to a Solaris sunray terminal, using an faulty KDE installation with a defective keyboard.

I am happy to get anything typed at all.

12. Sorry for the confusion.
I asked the IT guy as he walked by, and that was his answer.

Hope all is well with your file!
