The Beach Boys.....love 'em or hate 'em
I always loved their sound especially their "surf" songs. I don't have a favorite song by them. I like them all equally. How about you?

2. Love 'em!
"Wouldn't It Be Nice" is one of the most sublime popular songs ever recorded.

4. Pet Sounds one of the top 5 records of all-time.
Love 'em. Hate what they've become. Mike Love is a greedy, RW toady. Brian Wilson is a genius.

6. Agreed on all counts.
I also agree with the statement above regarding "Wouldn't It Be Nice". That's a great tune.

7. I don't exactly hate 'em
But I just don't want to listen to them any more. Heard way too much of them when I ws younger. I've moved on to other stuff.

9. Personally, I'm A Little Pissed With Brian Wilson
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 01:45 PM by CO Liberal
He helped pressure his daughter Carnie into having that surgical procedure done that mutilated her digestive ssytem. She'll be sufferring from it for the rest of her life, which may even be shortened as a result of that weight-loss surgery.

Musically, however, I've always liked 'em. But it is a bit creepy to watch Carl Wilson singing "Be True To Your School" nowadays.....

23. Carnie Wilson isn't exactly a saint when it comes to life post
bariatric surgery. She was on Howard Stern's show a couple of years or so ago and was just bashing fat people along with Howard. It made me sick. One would think that with the abuse she took, she would have more compassion. No, she is THIN now and that is all that matters.

About the Beach Boys...I like some of their stuff but it takes a lot for me to separate their right-wing politics from their feel good music. I do love "In my room" though!

30. Do they have RW politics?
I never knew that...always thought Brian was a bit out of it for politics, and I always pegged Dennis a lefty.

Well, the newer stuff (late '80's) is crap. "Kokomo" sucks. And when the surviving members perform solo now, it's just sad.

13. I've been in this town so long
That back in the city
I've been wandering lost
And gone and unknown for a long, long time.

Fell in love years ago
With an innocent girl
From the Spanish and Indian Home
Home of the heroes and villains.

14. Help Me Rhonda.....The Beachboys are Great!!!!!!
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 02:19 PM by RedEarth
I remember going to see the Beachboys at a local amusement park in OKC for 50 cents. Enjoyed them then and still enjoy their music.

One song I really like is from the album, So Tough, Carl and the Passions, 1972.....

All This is That...

All This Is That"
Time: 4:04 Brother Publishing Co. BMI
Al Jardine/Carl Wilson/Mike Love

I am that, thou art that, and all this is that
I am that, thou art that, all this is that
I am that, thou art that, all this is that
This is that

Oooo

Daybreak and I take a glide
Into the pool of peace inside
(Two waves travel by)
To waves and I both travel by
(And that makes all the difference to me)

Life supporting waves of bliss
Mother Divine's precious kiss
Brings with love the light of wisdom
And the gift of eternal freedom

18. I love most of their stuff, though a few numbers don't grab me.
I agree with the previous poster who said that Mike Love is a RW puke. Brian is a tortured genius, and Al Jardine is a good guy.

My fave: "Add Some Music To Your Day".

The Sunday morning gospel goes good with the soul.
There's blues, folk, and country, and rock like the Rolling Stones.
The world could come together as one
If everybody under the sun
Adds some music to their day.

You'll hear it while you're walking by a neighbor's home.
You'll hear it faintly in the distance when you're on the phone.
You're sitting in a dentist's chair
And they got music for you there
To add some music to your day.

Add some music to your day....

Your doctor knows it keeps you calm.
Your preacher adds it to his psalms
So add some music to your day.

Music when you're alone
Is like a companion for your lonely soul
When day is over I close my tired eyes.
Music is in my soul.

At a movie you can feel it touching your heart.
And on every day of the summer time
You'll hear children chasing ice cream cars.
They'll play it on your wedding day.
There must be 'bout a million ways
To add some music to your day.

Add some music to your day...

25. close, but not quite . . .
his name is Blondie Chaplin . . . and his latest gig has been singing backup for the Stones . . . he was originally a founder of the South African group the Flames, and has worked with a wide range of other artists, including an early stint with The Band . . . a great, though largely unknown, artist . . .

26. LOVE THEM!
Their personal relationships are god-awful...but that SOUND! Brian Wilson is a freakin' genius. He truly is the Mozart of pop music. (I forget who said that.) I saw him from the fourth or fifth row on his first big tour after getting rid of Dr. Landy and starting to be comprehensible, and it was one of the most incredible concerts I've ever seen in my life.

27. Well

I can't stomach their early poppy stuff but so much, but Pet Sounds was a work of mastery.

I will echo what has been sad, Brian Wilson is one of the most brilliant men to ever stumble into a music studio.

28. I dig the Beach Boys the most!

If I had to pick a favorite song of theirs, it would be "Surfing U.S.A." But they did a good couple of dozen songs that are tops in my book.

Thanks for asking! :-)

29. "Pet Sounds" is a most amazing album
Light years ahead of anything...easy to see how it inspired the Beatles (yep, you got that right - Paul said one of the inspirations for "Rubber Soul" was this album.)

"Smile" what we have of it was amazingly good as well - sigh - if they would have finished that album just think how it would have been.

Even some of their 70's stuff was good.

Need a more wholesome influence - like the mobster Wayne Newton.
