Anyone seen Neil Young's Greendale show yet?
Saw it last night in Mountain View. It was amazing.

Neil has written a song cycle that tells the story of a family in the fictional town of Greendale -- he designed a very cool set, and actors are on stage acting out the show as he performs the songs with Crazy Horse.

The songs are by far the best he's written in years.

He takes some big shots at the corporate-controlled media, Clear Channel in particular. The main message is about the environment, but he also blasts Ashcroft, etc. Just a brilliant piece of work all around. Highly recommended.

He played Rockin in the Free World during the encore, and inserted the line "Our guys are dyin', cause we don't have a plan"

1. I missed here in Toronto

but he is swinging back in Sept I think.

Listening to the classic rock station here when he was in town and there were some bad reviews - from 'wingers'of course who never realised what Neil had been singing about all these years. The stage show was too much for them.

Morans

2. Don't miss it
Honestly, I was skeptical, but it was amazing. Beyond the creativity and the message, the music was just phenonmenal.

3. Greendale
Scared the crap out of me the first time i heard it, but it grew on me big time. The show I saw didn't have the stage play, but I've gotten lots of pics from friends and lots of tapes from other shows too.

Good to see this posted here. Its relevant to the cause. :)

My first post after a year of lurking. I love DU!

4. Welcome!
Did you see the acoustic show, without the play? That must have been amazing. I just put out a request to trade for a copy of the one in Hamburg, where he played "On the Beach" for only the 2nd time live.

Yes Neil is definitely relevant to the cause.

6. this space reserved..
No it was electric, but the stage was too small to contain it all I guess. There has been maybe two or three shows without the play and ours was one. Plus he didn't finish Bandit, which is a quiet song, because the assholes up front wouldn't stop talking. And the second set was four songs shorter than most of the others Ive heard. But I'm not complaining. Sort. of. not.

Ive heard Hamburg. Its great. The guitar is big and warm and juicy.

5. Awwwright!
"takes some big shots at the corporate-controlled media, Clear Channel in particular. The main message is about the environment, but he also blasts Ashcroft, etc."

Hell, can't hurt, cuz none of these sorry South FL rock stations play him anyways!

"He played Rockin in the Free World during the encore, and inserted the line "Our guys are dyin', cause we don't have a plan" "

Still a kickass song.

I saw Ministry couple months ago, and while introducing "N.W.O." (aka "New World Order") Al Jorgensen (aw crap, I can NEVER spell his damn name right!) tore W. a NEW ONE!!!!!!! "This song is for George Fucking Bush for stealing the election right here in Palm Beach!" or something to that affect!!!!!! It was truely awesome to see 3,000 kids cheer louder than a 747 to that!!!!!!!

Dr. Lu, sky high with a heartache of stone, you'll never see me cuz I'm always alone!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!
