1. This could take over this site. Start here with Chicken, Alaska
and can you quess why Maine had Poland, Norway, China, Sweden,and as I said funny names could take over this site. I once had a college teacher from England ask me this question. Why are their so many English place names around Boston? Well as a student I could not stop laughing.

4. Back in Newfoundland, Canada, we had neat names.
They included Heart's Content, Joe Batt's Arm, Heart's Desire, Come By Chance and Dildo!!!

And I can remember when I first went to live outside of South Yorkshire wondering why people found Penistone funny. We don't pronounce it penis-stone but instead we pronounce it pen-is-tun in a good thick Yorkshire accent.
