Do any of you have any experience with deep vein trombosis?
I have had my second clot and I am wondering if a vein can be repaired.

1. My now 93-year-old father had a deep vein thrombosis some fifteen years
years ago and it really slowed him down, but did not stop him. While I have no information to share, do encourage you to learn all you can and follow your doctor's instructions to a tee. Good luck.

2. I was diagnosed 3 years ago with DVT
and spent a week in the VA hospital. They dissolved it with heparin and so far no recurrence. I now have been diagnose with PAD and go in Wednesday the 27th for an angiogram and am being told that the arteries can be repaired. Angioplasty, stint or bypass. I know that DVT is very dangerous and you need to take it seriously many are crippled or die from this. Good luck

7. It hurts Brook. I never realized that a blood clot hurt until I got one.
Lateral movement is the worst.

9. Reason I asked
is that I frequently wake in the night with strong pain and a rockhard knot in my leg - and don't know what causes it. It isn't quite the same as a charley horse.

10. Maybe I didn't put the two together
Yes, I had what I thought were leg cramps leading up to the dvt. After I was diagnoased and hospitalize I never had the cramps so thats why I thought I didn't have any pain but the dvt itself I don't think was painful. The cramps, I now believe, were trying to tell me something and I didn't realize it. Any way the test, for dvt is blood work and a Doppler scan. The doppler is non invasive and painless. Wait no longer to find out.

on edit: is your foot swelling, if so that is a pretty good sign in and of itself.

11. Thank you.
I'll have to pay some attention to my foot. I had surgery on that foot recently and would have attributed swelling to that. Taking your advice to heart, I'll ask my doctor about the blood work and Doppler. He's been trying to convince me to start BP meds - could be connected.

I love DU for many reasons - being able to discuss, advise and commiserate about these sorts of things is just one. Again, thanks for your responses.

8. In my case
It was my left foot just getting bigger and bigger. I don't remember any pain associated with it but maybe there were, just don't remember.
I do know it is serious business.

5. It sure is a pain in the ass. And it really hurts. I am just wondering if
it would help if they could put a stint in the main vein so the blood could pass through it and not through the smaller veins where it normally would not have to go through. My doctor is, well, ... not so good.

3. Compression hose...
..they are surprisingly comfortable and come in a variety of colors. The wearing of them can help prevent a re-occurance. Of course, ask your doctor.
