*cracks knuckles* I'm about to hang a ceiling fan.
Anyone want to offer me any advice before I begin? I'll shut off the breaker to the den first, so don't worry, electrocution is not a danger.

I'm just wondering how I'm going to hoist that heavy sunufabitch to get it into the bracket.

I don't have a husband or a boyfriend to help. It's all on my back. I'll post a photo when I'm finished.

I love challenges like this. :D

1. YOU CAN DO IT, WOMAN!
Last summer I amazed my father by single-handedly hauling a queen-sized box spring down two flights of stairs, through my yard, up more stairs and into my garage. And it didn't hit the ground once. :D

Can't wait to see your pic. :hi:

2. Thanks for the inspiration.
I have a rickety old ladder I can use to sit the thing on while I'm wiring it.

We're "can-do" women. Even if some guy offered to help me, I'd probably say, NO, because I'm just a little too independent for my own good.

:hi:

11. Most new fans come with a little S-hook
that you hang the fan from the bracket with whilst you wire it.

Don't forget to put on the ceiling shroud before you put the blades on... or you'll be pissed and have to take the blades off again.

3. Make sure the light box is fastened to something solid.
I've seen them before that were flimsy.

It's attached to a beam in my den. :hi:

Thanks for the advice. :D

8. Well, I have a question about my old fan.
The "reverse switch" crumbled, and that's why I'm taking it down to put up this new one.

I was wondering if it's even possible to replace the reverse switch, so that I can use the old fan in my bedroom.

When the reverse switch broke, the fan quit working...the light kit still works, but the fan doesn't work.

Or even if I can't buy a new reverse switch, I was wondering if I could cut out the switch and splice some of the wires leading to and from the switch, just so the fan will work again.

What do ya think? And thanks for offering your advice to me. :D

9. It can be done. Do you know what brand your old one is?
If it is a Hunter or one of the more expensive ones you should be able to get a replacement switch. If not and it is one of the less expensive ones it can be wired so that it will run in one direction. You may even be able to buy a switch at a hardware store that will replace it.

10. It's a JC Penney now-defunct fan.
I don't think I can find parts as easily as if it were a Hunter. I appreciate you telling me that it will be possible to wire it w/o the switch. I hated to toss it--it's a cool looking fan.

12. Well, JCPenney probably had the fan made by some company...
like Broan or Hunter or Nu Tone. They just put their name on it.

I would take out the old switch and go to a hardware store ( after making a drawing of what wires went where ) and try to find a switch that matches up to it. Check actual physical size so it fits back in the fan housing and number of contacts ( the number of wire that went to the fan ). It is probably three wire SPDT ( single pole double throw ). Good luck.

14. You will lose 3 tiny nuts and find them next year when you are
putting the Christmas tree up. Just accept it. You won't get so mad.
