11-Year-Old Needs Bone Marrow Transplant

The Gift Of Life Bone Marrow Foundation is sponsoring a donor recruitment drive at Kent State University from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday in the hopes of finding a match for a girl with a rare form of leukemia, NewsChannel5 reported.

Doctors say the only cure for Amy Katz?s leukemia is a bone marrow or blood stem cell transplant.

The drive will be held in room 311 of the Kent State Student Center.

WEWS reported tissue type is inherited and the best chance of finding a match will be found among donors of eastern European Jewish descent.

Eligible donors must be between the ages of 18-60 and in good health.
