1. Been there, done that

I got to go to Indonesia back in the '90s. There's a company called Overseas Adventure Travel that specializes in tours to interesting and obscure places, and they offered an Indonesia culture tour where you get to hear gamelans in both Java and Bali, and see the dances, and have it all explained to you by somebody knowledgeable.

What's really cool about it, other than how wonderful it sounds, is that every community (that can afford it) has its own gamelan, and pretty much everybody learns how to play and does so, so the gamelan is really part of the fabric of the community.

And I played (Javanese) gamelan in college, which was big fun.
