The "Bobby Goldsboro's 'Honey'" appreciation thread....
Go ahead...laugh, poke fun...my whole family does, as they put the C.D. in the player just to see me well up because I cannot help myself.

As a child, I would grab my mother's LP and put in on our credenza stereo and cry over and over to the words:

See the tree how big it's grown,
But friends it hasn't been so long...

...it wasn't big.

I laughed at her and she got mad,
The first day that she planted it was just a twig.

all the way through,

One day I came home unexepectedly and caught her crying needlessly
in the middle of the day...

and it was in the early Spring when flowers bloom and robins sing
She went away...

And Honey, I miss you...and I'm being good...and I'd love to be with you...if only I could.

After that, I'd sob through "Broomstick Cowboy".

Sue me, I'm even tearful now.

1. So, what was it, a Valium overdose?
And Honey, I miss you and I'm being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could
One day while I was not at home
While she was there and all alone, the angels came
Now all I have is memories of Honey

7. When I was a kid I used to well-up too,
But Wickerman just made me laugh. Oh, how I wish there weren't so many things wrong with me.

I remember his vocal rendition evoked a real response from me way back when. I wonder how it would sound to me now?

9. I used to see him a lot on the Johnny Carson show...
He was very accident prone, he needed stitches once because he cut his foot on a rice krispy...

13. Actually, he did something like that too...
He was in his house and heard something going on outside, so he went to his window, which was covered with some blinds made out of bamboo or something...He peeked through the slats and turned his head to watch something go by and got some nice big splinters in his cheeks right below his eyes...

I don't know why I remember this, frankly...

12. Any songwriter who rhymes "what the heck" with "hugged my neck"
doesn't deserve to live. :P
