Tom Snyder diagnosed with leukemia.
The 68 year old "colortini" late night talk show host was recently diagnosed with the same disease that his brother has. I always liked his show, stayed up late just to see it. He always kept it interesting. I liked his sense of humor. (Sorry, Tom, for talking about you in the past tense.) His show was part of Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company.

I check Tom's personal website now and then just to see what's new.

1. I always stayed up
to watch him too. I liked his show. Remember when Jon Stewart would sit in for him? He also had a show after Tom's for a while. I did not know Tom had a website, never thought to look. Thanks, I will check it out. Get better Tom.

4. You want to talk about an effing ORIGINAL? TOM is an ORIGINAL.
Sure, a lot of people made fun of him. Dan Aykroyd did a pretty good impression of him.

BUT...TOM is the LIVING EMBODIMENT of Ralph Waldo Emerson's admonition to "listen to that iron string that reverberates within"...BE YOURSELF.

Don't be a SHEEP.

And if people can't "take" the REAL YOU...

God bless 'em, and FUCK 'em if they can't take a joke.

Tom is one of my heroes. We need MORE of him and LESS of Hannity, Malkin, Rush, Coulter...

5. Some random thoughts from Tom's website
just to show where Tom's head is at.....

Some quick thoughts..... Despite what George W. says, the Social Security system is not in trouble and does not need fixing and the people are onto him. Tom Delay is a jerk. Hilary Clinton is already running for the Presidency for 2008. The Red Sox-Yankee rivalry is on the verge of getting out of hand. There was more fan interference at Fenway last night that nearly wound up in a brawl or a riot. Early morning network television is not news anymore--its a joke. I miss Dan Rather. And Tom Brokaw. And I pray in my own stupid way for Peter Jennings to get well soon. David Letterman's son is a very cute kid. But I'd like Dave to introduce us to his Mom. "Saturday Night Live" is not funny. HBO exists because people must have a place to say "fuck" on television as many times as they can. GM and Ford have lost the way when it comes to designing and building sexy cars that make us wanna buy them. There is no Iraqi oil money to pay for reconstruction. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice don't have a clue as to what is going on there. The worst Italian reastaurant in New York (if there is such a thing) is better than the best Italian restaurant in most other American cities. Books by celebrities about themselves bore me to tears. Its time for Emeril to pack it in. And Dr. Joyce Brothers. And Maury. And Regis. And Paul Harvey. Donald Trump spends a lot of time telling people how to get rich. But I haven't heard him mention how helpful it is to have a father who kicks in 45 million as seed money!

My kinda guy!!

6. I hate this
When I was a kid and working the evening shift, I'd stay up late and clean the house and watch Tom Snyder. He always had some great subjects and interesting folks on. I'm praying for his speedy recovery!!

Man, he was the best.

I wonder if he still has the teddy bear?

9. Tom has a website
I sent him an E-mail several years ago and he responded. That was cool. I like him a lot. He was from Carson's generation but more journalistic than comedic, although he had a great sense of humor.

I wish you the best of health, Tom.

B-)

10. I actually wrote him a fan letter way back when.
Got a typed response with the rubber stamp signature but hey it was cool at the time.

Makes me nostalgic for NBC's old late night news programming. Tom Snyder and Linda Ellerbee were great company for nite owls back in the late '70's/early '80's.

I wish him well.

That laugh is classic.

11. another from tom:
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 12:00 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
cool to know that he's one of us:
"I see where the government is predicting gasoline prices will reach $2.35 a gallon come May. Funny--I filled my tank this afternoon and it cost me $2.65! Oh well--this is the same government that tells me the war in Iraq is going fine and Social Security is gonna be great once we get the stock market involved!"

thanks for clueing me in that he had a website. i loved his show and always enjoy what he had to say. hopefully, the optimism he seems to have about his illness is warranted and he beats it
---
btw, U2 made their american tv debut on thom's show in the early 80s-that, if nothing else, makes me forever in his debt
