http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365885/combined

Joan Allen was wonderful in this movie playing the mother of 4 daughters who was deserted by her husband; oh and she pretty much was an angry drunk throughout the entire movie. And I'm not a big Kevin Costner fan but he was great as this retired baseball player star who pretty much turned into a slacker/stoner. The rest of the cast was great including directer Mike Binder playing the sleazy program director of Costner's radio show.

How's come Joan Allen hasn't won an Oscar yet? She's just an amazing and talented actress but unfortunately I think this movie was released too early for it to get any kind of recognition during the awards season.

2. I liked it, too
but REALLY thought I would hate it in the first 5 minutes or so when Costner and Allen leered about, slurred their words, and stumbled, letting us know just what drunks they were. Had that continued the movie would've been unwatchable. Fortunately they set the scene and moved on - or, they developed higher tolerances to etoh. :D

Another movie that surprised me was Fever Pitch. Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would - nice adaptation of Hornby's novel.

3. Saw it last weekend...
My guy best friend was in town and he's a movie nut. He's always dragging me off to movies I would never see on my own and I almost always enjoy them. I really liked Upside of Anger. I surprised myself with how much I liked Costner in it. And Joan Allen was wonderful.

5. re:
I never would have guessed that Costner would be good in this.
Surprising... it had bomb written all over it.
