Poll question: Where do you usually eat dinner?
I ask because last night my daughter told me "No one eats like this, you know." We eat at the formal dining room table (only because we like where that room is situated more than the breakfast nook). It's not formal or anything, but we do sit down to eat dinner like that about 90% of the time. She said her friends' families eat in the living room, watching TV or while on the computer, or in their bedrooms, etc.

Of course I said "well that's not our family." I'm not hardcore about it, but what's so wrong about taking 30 minutes to eat at a table? We're all here at dinnertime, anyway. And when we have pizza, we DO eat it in front of a movie or something.

So I thought I'd find out where most people eat dinner. If I left out an option, let me know.

1. I'm a single male. I eat in front of the TV, usually.
Occasionally, such as when I'm reading during dinner, I'll sit at my table.

Now when I visit my parents, we eat in the "informal" dining room, which faces the TV. The "formal" dining table hasn't been used for a meal in probably 20 years.

2. Sad to say but the TV has us all sucked in on the couch
Plates in lab slopping away.
Once and a while we will wake up and say turn that damn thing off, sit up to the table.
Then we can actually have a family discussion.

3. We always sit down to dinner at either the kitchen or dining room
table. My husband travels a lot, so I like to have dinner together with everyone when it is possible.

Sometimes because of practices, etc., we don't get to eat together, but I don't let the kids eat in the family room or the playroom. They can have a snack in there, but meals have to be eaten at the table.

4. Since it's only the two of us now
we eat at the small table in the kitchen.

When our son was still living with us, we ate in the dinning room almost every night and dinners were "family time" where we talked about EVERYTHING!

I truly miss those days......

5. I am the kung fu chef
love to cook, but hate to clean the dining room table of bills, laptops, books, etc.

TV trays - just right, and they don't accumulate crap if you put them away after dinner. In fact I should probably just get rid of the dining room table altogether and just put a bunch of TV trays in there too.

Hmmmm.

6. If I had a dining room,
I'd eat there, but as it is I only have a bedroom that's my own. I share everything else with many other people.

13. I think that counts as a table in the kitchen.
We have a bar with a counter wide enough to eat on, but oddly, never sit there.

Hmmmm.

14. Right now we are using these crap ass T.V. tray tables from the fifties
It sucks. But we don't have a lot of furniture right now so you gotta live with what you got. Our old house had a "real" dining room table and we used that. Makes the most sense to me.

15. Growing up, we ate in the dining room
Now I eat in the living room. I have a table, but I haven't found any chairs I like yet. My apartment is small anyway - the table is only a few feet away from the chesterfield.

16. I usually eat in the dining room
Occasionally I'll eat in the living in front of the idiot box, but only if there's something I actually want to watch on at the time.

17. It all depends!
If we have visitors of Sapph is visiting, we tend to sit at the dining table. But if it just mum and me, then we tend to eat in front of the tv.

Plus with my work and the hours I keep, I quite often don't actually sit down to diner until between 10:30 and 11pm at night. No point in mum setting the table just for herself, or for just me for that matter.

20. At a table - always.
In the kitchen most of the time, dinning room for more formal ocassions, in the garden throughout summer (weather permitting).

Forgive a bit of English superiority complex, but I don't get how Americans can actually eat without using the knife and fork, and to do so infront of the television without a table on which to rest the plate - bemused.

22. I live alone, and it varies.
If I've just boiled some spaghetti or I'm eating takeout, I'm usually in front of my computer.

If I've cooked something elaborate, dining room table. (I do not have an eat-in kitchen.) If I have people over -- dining room table.

I haven't been watching much television lately, so I don't eat there. There's no real convenient way to eat in front of the TV in any case.

24. Usually in front of the computer.
I have a habit of having to either watch or read something while eating, so I'm usually scanning things like DU or other alternative news sources at dinnertime.

However since I work nights, technically dinner for me is breakfast and lunch is dinner, in which case I than actually eat dinner in work again while reading or watching TV, when I can get away with it (which is mostly always).;-)

I don't want to make a lot of trips back and forth to get things.
