I planted my garden this weekend. Here's what I planted. What about you?
I planted:

Tomatoes
Sweet Banana Peppers
Bell Peppers
TWO ROWS OF COWHORN OKRA (YUM!)
White Scalloped Squash
Yellow Crookneck Squash
Ichiban Eggplant
A row of green snap beans
A row of sweet corn
Cucumbers
Watermelons
Cantilopes
And some cool "dinosaur" ornamental gourds.

I've got a HUGE garden, compared to what I usually plant. Have you planted yet? Tell me about your garden.

Can't plant in Anchorage until the end of next month.. Hey, if you like fresh salsa, toss some cilantro seeds out there.

MMmm! :9

4. I'll have to do that! I still have two rows that are empty.
Might just plant some cilantro and garlic. Thanks for the idea. :)

2. In about a month, can I come frolic through your garden?
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 12:50 AM by Revolutionary_Acts04
It sounds lovely!

I wish we had room for one. :(
We use to have big gardens when we lived in the country.

3. Flowers
Due to an orthopedic disability, I had to give up on gardening several years ago. I plant hardy, low-maintenance perennial flowers now. I planted some today and I'll plant the rest in the next few days.
Your garden sounds wonderful!

7. What kind of flowers did you plant?
I'm sorry that you can't plant the garden you usually plant. Hope you are able to do so again soon.

13. Thank You...
... for your compassion! My disability is 21 years old so I wont be growing anymore vegetable gardens. My son used to help me garden but he moved far away for work.
I planted Hollyhock, Zinnias, Asters, Sweet William, "Old Fashioned Mix", Phlox, and Wildflower Mix today. (Actually, they're not ALL perenniels, but sometimes they reseed themselves). I still have lots of other seeds to plant, (but I have to pace myself). I love gardening and do miss it. If I had raised beds I could grow vegetables, the bending over and squatting down is what bothers me.
Happy gardening! I hope you post pictures when it grows.

9. I transplanted snow peas and english pea seedlings today; radishes.
Carrot seeds are soaking, and I'm waiting on the tomato plants to get a few more leaves before I move them outside.

The squash and cucumber plants are still too small to go outside, too.

Still inside:
Genovese Basil, Greek oregano, low growing, non-pole green beans, sugar baby watermelon, Lemon Cucumbers, English cucumbers, French round zucchini, several varieties of tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, cilantro, tomatillos.

Just waiting on the weather.

14. tomatoes, sweet corn (I really hate the field corn that
they try to pass off as sweet corn around here!), okra, cucumbers and watermelons. But I haven't finished yet. When I get off of my butt (and depending on times) I will include strawberries, cantaloupe, lettuce, pumpkins, squash and whatever else sounds good at the time (and a few herbs-whatever sounds good).
I do grow potatoes pretty much year round-in a large outdoor style trash can. I saw it in Mother Earth years ago and thought "I can do that"-so I did it. Really easy to do.

15. I planted some ice plant at my apartment.
My landlord has a broken sprinkler head, so one patch of the garden doesn't get watered regularly. I think the ice plant will fill in the dry patch nicely.

I dont' kow why I'm planting anything here. I'm probably moving in a couple months. But I can't help myself--it's spring and planting calls to me! :)

17. LOL... just remembered something..
This post made me think of a little postcard I got from Johnny's Seed Company a couple of years ago. I placed an order from their catalog, and it was maybe about 3 weeks after I had planted all the seeds that this postcard arrived in the mail. It said something to the effect of:

Dear Valued Customer,

We regret to inform you that due to a packaging error, the bib lettuce packet you received, catalog item 243441, did not contain bib lettuce seeds.

= :o =

The seeds you received were either (blah, blah, blah).. they went on to list a bunch of possibilities, then told me to call them toll-free to place another order for free.

I immediately ran out to the garden to see what those rows looked like and I about died laughing at the post card! I can't remember what eventually sprung up, mustard greens or something.. but I got such a kick out of that postcard that I didn't really care..

19. Congrats to everyone who planted on Saturday!
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 06:38 AM by dbt
If one "goes by the almanac," Saturday was a good planting day: moon on the increase (good for crops that "bear above the ground") and in a fruitful sign of the Zodiac. (NOTE: This is NOT to say that whatever you planted on Sunday will not do well; just compare the Saturday and Sunday plantings in a month or two.) FWIW, 4/23 and 4/24 are supposed to be good planting days, too.

So far in the dbt garden since 4/2:

4 rows of potatoes (interspersed with marigolds: companion planting)
2 rows of sweet corn
1 row of snow peas
1 row of pole beans
1 row of purplehull peas
1 row of sweet onions
1 row of carrots
1 row of cabbage
1 row of okra

More beans, corn, squash, canteloupe, peppers and eggplant going in this weekend!
