Anyone around interested in urban conservation / preservation?
My neighborhood's cranking away on a conservation district. MERCY, it's a lot of work. Any community activists or development types around who wanna chime in? I could use a hug -- and some advice about how on earth you get people involved to beat the neighborhood for petition sigs. We've been working on this for three months and we're only at 30%. Boy, it's exhausting.

However, I can give you one of these:

3. Awww!
Thanks Rev!

It's probably just like any situation where there's too much work to do and not enough people to do it. (I'm sure you know what that's like!) Sigh! Oh well, we all soldier on, eh? :7

6. The problem isn't the number of able people.
It's finding those who are willing...and who follow through.

I swear, everyone's an armchair quarterback, knowing exactly how things should be run. But when you challenge them, there are a billion excuses why they "can't."

It's "The Little Red Hen" all over again.

9. Exactly.
It's not that hard to effect change and be a "mover and shaker." It take no special expertise at all. You just have to 1) show up and 2) follow through.

And that's all it takes, but it's amazing how many people don't want to do even THAT!

10. We need more people like Sparky.
He's often said "I'm good at showing up, and lifting heavy things." :)

7. Are you talking about the preservation of historic buildings?
and stuff like that?

8. Yeah. Zoning stuff.
It's really more political than architectural at this point. We're trying for a conservation district for the whole neighborhood right now. It's not exactly as stringent as a historic district. And it's a freaking lot of work! :P
