I saw this from a mile away
Dark Phoenix Saga To Play Out In Third X-Men Film
Author: Wayne Hall
Date: 04-15-2005
Source: Now Playing Magazine

The Dark Phoenix saga, one of the most famous and controversial in comic book history, will play out in the upcoming X-Men film, said Simon Kinberg, who is scripting the movie.

"At the end of 'X2,' director Bryan Singer left the groundwork in place to pursue the Dark Phoenix story," Kinberg told Now Playing Magazine. "And Famke Janssen will be back in the next movie."

Many of the familiar comic book X-Men will return as well, but Kinberg -- who also has a writing credit on the upcoming "Fantastic Four" film -- wouldn't say exactly who that would include.

"You will see new characters and beloved X-Men in the third film, and they will play major roles ... well, at least one of them will play a major role," he said. "The truth is, the biggest challenge of writing the movies is fitting all the characters in. I have so much love for them, I don't want to introduce one that I love as a cameo. I want to really get into the depth and the layers of them."

Rumors have been circulating that this will be the last X-Men movie, which Kinberg appears to confirm. However, some of the most popular heroes and villains may come back in films of their own instead of part of a team.

"Fox is developing a Wolverine spin-off movie and a Magneto spin-off, and I would say they are more predisposed to making those spin-off films before they mount a fourth X-Men film," Kinberg said. "This is the crown jewel for Fox, their only and biggest homegrown franchise. This is their baby, and they treat it very seriously, very religiously. They are very careful about all the decisions they make."

Even though the story was published about 25 years ago, the Dark Phoenix saga remains one of the most debated storylines ever in comics. It focused on the apparent seduction, corruption and death of a longtime member of the X-Men.

Both behind-the-scenes conflicts before the story was completed and alterations to the character and what seems to be her offspring over the years appear to have only added interest.

The "Fantastic Four" film will blaze onto movie screens on July 8. The next X-Men film will be released on May 26, 2006.

4. Venom? Whaaa?
Explain about Spiderman 3, please.
I finally caught the second one last night, and I am kind of confused about....James Franco's character...Harry? bringing back the Green Goblin.

Does he, or is he a new villain?

9. Green Goblin was kind of lame.
So when I saw him going back there I frowned... I'm not familiar with too many of the other villains, but anyone's got to be better than the Goblin duo.

Though, from a dramatic standpoint, I understand why they did it this way.

11. why the goblins? i duno
and technically, they werent a duo, spidey killed the father, son wanted revenge, son and spidey who were school friends became masked friends, Venom on the other hand... Spidey rescues astronauts coming back from the first mars mission, comes out of the hudson covered in a black sludge, wakes up with a black costume and unlimited webs and even more enhanced strength, the costume was an alien symbiote, Parker gets eddie brock fired and he replaces him as photographer for the paper, brock snaps, goes crazy seeks revenge, finds out he's spidey, spidey rejects the symbiote and eddie brock gets it, becomes venom

12. Venom sounds cool.
You're right, I shouldn't have said duo....

It had to be the Green Goblin and Hobgoblin because it is dramatically the most interesting--Peter battling his best friend's father is compelling in terms of the conflict that provides for the hero, and it gives a nice story arc for Harry/Peter's relationship. We are invested (they hope) because instead of Peter fighting a random(really kick ass) villain, the last fight will mean more because we are aware of the emotional stakes. I'd agree.

8. Gambit was (sort of) in X2
He appeared in the screen when Mystique was searching for Magneto. Right above Eric Lensherr, there was a listing for Lebeau, Remy.
