Britney photo provokes fierce debate
SHARON BURNSIDE, Toronto Star

If Britney Spears has fans among Toronto Star readers it was not evident Thursday when dozens phoned or emailed to ask three things:

One. Is the Toronto Star becoming a tabloid?

Two. Why is a pregnant pop singer and her craving for fast food front-page news? Or page A3 news? Or news at all?

Three. How could a newspaper that sometimes writes about eating disorders make nasty remarks about someone gaining a few pounds?

Readers were, and I quote, appalled, embarrassed, very disappointed, surprised, dismayed, offended, very angry and outraged. Others "could not believe" their eyes, many were "absolutely disgusted" and at least 32 cancelled their subscriptions.

1. Toronto Star readers are a good model for how cognizant people
SHOULD react to drivel. Most of our people 'down here' need to wake up and get their synapses firing.

3. Britney is one of the least interesting people in the world.
I have no idea as to why any media would bother to discuss her trivial situation.
