((not sure about other places)) that's actually a very bad omen, if you're superstitous.

according to my grandmother, a bird tapping at your window signifies an impending death in the family.

then again, she says that washing clothes on sunday brings bad luck, so go figure ;-)

Dookus as most people know is one of the more superstitious and myth prone posters at DU. Hope this omen does not upset him so bad he is unable to continue his tarot card reading and astrology interests.

on a slightly related note:
the micro video camera bird has been noticed by the target but he does not seem to suspect that it is anything more than a feathered friend.

Males are quite territorial and often peck at their reflections.

I encountered a male cardinal that pecked my kitchen window for weeks. It encountered its reflection at a feeder I had placed near the window. When I wised up and moved the feeder it ended the beak-blunting head butting.

6. put a picture of a hawk on the window

Try Rumsfeld or Wolfowitz. They are chickenhawks.

8. we had a series of cardinals that did that

it was maddening. They would wake us all up at the break of day, and then fly from window to window around the house, banging into almost all of them. We finally stopped the problem by pasting the sillhouette of some sort of hawk (sharp shinned?) in the window panes. Since the hawk is an eater of smaller birds, the cardinals got the message.
