Pay the zoo, name the bears

It's been the fate of ballparks, office towers, plazas and pavilions. And now it's happening to the two newest ursine residents of the San Francisco Zoo: Naming rights to the grizzly bears will go to the highest bidder.
"People like the idea of naming them," said zoo publicist Nancy Chan. "It gives them a special bond."
People like it so much, in fact, that the zoo received 750 entries in a heavily promoted monthlong naming contest that began on Nov. 17, the day the orphaned sisters from Montana made their public debut.
The winners were supposed to be selected in early January, but the announcement never came. Instead, the contest was canceled this week.

As for the grizzlies, they could end up with names like Bechtel and Genentech.
