Whine of the Week - Kobe Bryant tops this weeks list
The first stricken form we crush? Why, it’s none other than Kobe "I Draw the Line Just the Other Side of Adultery" Bryant, who has been crying constantly ever since the indictment came down.
We have no comment on the case itself, that being a matter for a jury to decide. But we find it tiring to hear Bryant, who put himself in a situation he never should have been in, whimpering about how unfair life has been since that ignoble encounter in Colorado.

Last week, he finally chatted with the media while attending training camp with the Lakers, as reliable a source of WOW material as there is. Asked how things were going, he moaned that, "Every day is a bad day."

Hel-lo-oh. This is supposed to summon sympathy in the public? What exactly did he expect when he decided to pretend that nothing had happened and go ahead with life as usual even as he is fighting to stay out of prison for the rest of his life? Sunshine and roses?

We appreciate his giving of his time to share his thoughts. But if that’s the extent of his mental process -- "Oh, woe is me." -- we’d prefer he said nothing. Or, when he’s bewailing the course of his life, at least admit that every day probably isn’t all that good for his accuser, either.

Whine of the Week

As the author points out, it's fair to say that if Kobe were not so anxious to cheat on his wife with someone he had met, he would not be in this situation now. And as is also pointed out, this has been no picnic for the accuser either.

1. I have pretty much refrained from comment.....
on the Kobe situation, but since I heard that security was tight the day the hearing started because the judge, the prosecutor, and the accuser had all received death threats, I have just been completely disgusted. What can people be thinking? Does the truth and justice not matter if you are a rich athlete? I find it all so incredible.

should be subject to the same ordinary rules and due process as are ordinary citizens. Considering some of the hysteria around this case, you'd think the victim is the one that has been charged with a crime instead of Kobe. While he is entitled to his day in court, there is no principle that says one must assmume the victim is a liar and a tramp either. After all, he is the one who cheated on his wife, AND initially lied about it to the press and to the police.

4. Decision on whether he will stand trial expected shortly
I expect there IS enough evidence to warrant a trial ....
