6. Italian Villa on Lago di Como
or anywhere in the Italian lake region.

Although a French Chateau would be a very close second, followed by an English country estate.

7. I like Italy a lot
but I just LOVE Spain. I do think I'd need a lake cottage in Sweden for the summers with their 20 hours of daylight.

8. L'Italia
This is toughest poll yet. Il conto si prego. I'll settle for the gardener's shed if it's in Toscana. And I promise to learn the difference between 'gelato della pesca' and 'gelato della pesci'. It only takes once.

Provence would be nice. I have a friend who's buying a house in Majorca. I intend to pester her mercilessly.

If we want to be quasi realistic, a small villa in Croatia isn't impossible.

11. Just move to Beverly Hills...
And you can see ALL of them, sitting right next door to each other. Along with pseudo-English half-timbered houses, turreted Norman chateaux constructed of Finest Stucco, Fifties Moderne boomerangs, etc. etc.

The city of Beverly Hills once got huffy with a resident and claimed his lawn decorations were in "bad taste." (He had his marble nude statues painted in realistic flesh tones, complete with nipples and pubic hair.)

A local magazine responded with the headline: "This city was built on bad taste!" And ran the photos to prove it.
