1. Insulin or glipizide?

Yes, 118 is just barely above normal but it is still high. Unless you are already diagnosed diabetic, then congratulations.

3. Well, it was 85 before my surgery.
I'm lucky to see my sugar level drop to 99 by the end of a work day.

Still, I know I'm not immortal. And, oddly, that makes me scared.

2. Is it getting worse than it's been?
(I'm type 1, so I never had to go through a really long lead-up phase)

Are you self-monitoring at home and stuff?

4. Yes, self-monitoring.

I called the Doc's office a couple weeks back complaining of lightheadedness and an odd heavy feeling in my legs but canceled at the last moment. I reckoned they'd merely say "it's stress" as they have done for everything else (a slipped disc and what seems to be a B12 imbalance were slagged off as "anxiety" too...)

Edit: Language/knee-jerk reaction

5. In case you haven't found them yet
the following site might help you keep your bg levels closer to normal with diet.

http://www.diabetesnet.com/diabetes_food_diet/glycemic_index.php

Lots of good information there.

6. If you're regular doctor's office won't take this seriously
Would it be possible for you to see an endocrinologist? They obviously know much more about it, options, etc., and usually have trained dieticians as part of the office... Are you monitoring other times of the day besides fasting? What do your 2-hour-post-meal numbers look like? Oh, and a ... I hate doctors who don't take people seriously.

7. Thanks!
I haven't done any 2-hour levels recently, but I think I will be shortly. About 2 hrs from now. :-)

I might see about an endocrinologist; as my current GP is the only one to even remotely take me seriously I think that, with recent events, he'll take me with a little more cred compared to all the previous ones who glossed me over.
