>>The Herbaliser - < Ninja Tune >
London beat maniacs Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba formed The Herbaliser in the early '90s while the rest of the U.K. was in the grip of the rave revolution. Now a U.K. hip hop institution, Herbaliser has toured the world, played every major festival (from Glastonbury to Montreal to Montreaux), and has worked in and out of the studio with the likes of T-Love, Princess Superstar, and Push Button Objects. The Herbaliser's fourth album to date, Something Wicked This Way Comes, is a rich and varied collection of hip hop cuts featuring guest appearances from U.S. rappers Raaka Iriscience (Dilated Peoples) and MF Doom (of KMD), Jazz Fudge favorite Blade, Seaming To, Wildflower, and Phi Life Cypher. Chris Bowden and The Easy Access Orchestra step in for acoustic duties. Sometimes cinematic, sometimes serious, Something Wicked... is always charmingly funky. The future of U.K. hip hop is safe as long as these boys remain on the scene.
