Did anyone else here despise "Sideways?"
I couldn't stand the characters, thought the acting was mediocre; couldn't believe they managed to make the vineyards look bleak and ugly---and thought it was a shame that there seemed to be no repercussions for the character's lousy behavior.

Anyone else?

1. If I want to see a bunch of wine-sipping yuppies, I'll go to a 49ers game
You can see almost 5,000 frisco fans at every home game.

2. That pretty much sums it up. Same feeling I got;
If I wanted to watch two jackasses have a drunken mid-life crisis, and lie to women, I would just head over to the bar.

4. I think it's about a loser schlub who pretends to be a yuppie.
He puts on airs about his taste in wines, but is only a bit less ignorant than his wannabe actor friend.

Haven't seen it but it looks kinda cute from the previews.

12. The characters, the acting, the script, the morals,
the humor, etc.

Sideways and Eternal Sunshine were the two best movies I saw last year.

Sorry if I offended, don't really think you're nuts. Just didn't want the guy not to see it.

What about the morals did you like in this movie?

14. It was just the hope.
And the way the two guys learned from each other, trying to find a balance.

You know, don't lie and act like an idiot when you're getting married. Obvious, yeah, but it was a good illustration.

There was a lot, really.

17. It showed the variability of human nature, both between and within people
We aren't all good and we aren't all bad, but some people are worse or better off integrity wise than others. Good and evil weren't over the top, but the downside of human nature was so banal. And in the end, there was hope.

And the fat guy running down the street was hilarious, shocking, yet hilarious.

And the scene with Virginia Madsen talking about the grapes....total allegory, and it damned near made me cry. It was beautiful.

9. I liked it. It's a bit slow at first.

It's just a little slice of someone's life. A bit dark in places, perhaps, and enjoyable overall. In a few places it was downright funny. My husband and I laugh every time we open a bottle of the damn merlot. :-)

19. Watch it yourself, seriously.
You may be surprised. Expect a poignant flick, with some situational comedy thrown in here and there. Definately a grown-up movie.

5. It sounds like what I call a "Hype Movie"
where basically there's little to no plot and yet there's all sorts of noise clamoring over it.

10. Seriously....massive hype surrounding this
Can't believe the people that told me to watch it...

You know, I got the same feeling when I read "Bridges of Madison County..." I thought, "Shit...people think this is a novel, much less a good story?"

Good to see you!

6. It was a lot darker than I was expecting

I found the wine pretentiousness funny in spots, but the cruelty to the relationships bothered me.

Hilarious male frontal nudity, tho.

15. It's not the trippy little laugh-a-minute flick it's painted to be...
But it's very good.
