Jane's Addiction sold "Mountain Song" to RW beer hawkers Coors.
That's right; those decadent drug-slurping, weird-sex-having wild-ass rockers JANE'S ADDICTION, gave their best song, "Mountain Song," to the Coors beer corporation to use in one of their ads.

This is, of course, the same Coors that funds numerous Right-Wing think tanks, the same Coors which is named after notorious racist fuckwad Adolph Coors, the same Coors whose CEO once said that the best thing that ever happened to American Blacks was being enslaved.

Yup.

Anyone who now claims that Jane's Addiction ever had any credibility is now a damned liar.

3. What's wrong with taking money from republicans?
It spends the same, and the song, while great, is not exactly sacred. Hell, that's Perry's whole deal: sex, drugs and money. Why would he turn any of it down? I bet he parties pretty damn good off that money.

4. It's not a one way street....
I'm not even a big fan of Jane's Addiction.

it's the sense of collusion that's crawling up my ass and wriggling.

5. Letting rich white assholes pay for your lifelong party is hardly
collusion. I'd say he's got it goin' on. He no more approves of their lifestyle than they do of his. It's all business. I guess what I'm saying is, does any of this surprise you? Perry is Perry.

6. One can rationalize this all one wants, but it's still selling out.
Coors isn't offering the money to Janes Addiction as part of a charity program for aging rock stars, they are purchasing services from the band which will boost their bottom line. Coors is unable to promote on its own merits that goat urine they have the audacity to call beer. They require slick marketing campaigns which associate the product with an exciting lifestyle, hence the need for suppposedly edgy music in their ads. By helping Coors brand its product, Janes Addiction is helping the right wing nuts earn more money. Yes, it's just business, but does that make it right?

14. I might be able to swallow this business transaction if Perry took the $$
and used it to start another alternative Lollapollooza tour (as opposed to the mainstream thing we have now: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/pop/136299_lollapalooza23.html)

But I really liked them. Like them? Oh, I am so confused.
Did they sell the song, or the record company?

9. Well Amber is an Ale and Lager is a Lager
Basically it comes down to how the yeast sits inside the tank and at what tempature the yeast is activated. Lager ferments at lower temperatures then Ales (45-50 degreess for Lager and 65-70 for Ales). Also I believe lager yeast sits on the bottom of the tanks and Ales sit at the top. I really like brewing beer, actually my Red Ale is reading for drinking this weekend. :)

Also I am really bored at work, I have to cover the phones at 7am but nobody ever calls in.

17. My Spin Too
Liked some of their stuff. Preferred the alternate versions they did live. But, a little more important to the critics than actually influential. I think that equates to overrated.

16. Isn't the chorus to that song,
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 10:10 AM by SouthoftheBorderPaul
"Cash in now, honey."

Wow, that's an elaborate rationale that can justify "selling" a song like this to a giant, conservative beer company. Maybe they don't have control over their catalogue. Or maybe Perry isn't the only guy in the band with say so about song placement. Drummer, bass player and Navarro might've needed the money and outvoted him. A couple of years ago, the other members of Dead Kennedys sued Jello because he would not allow "Holiday in Cambodia" to be used in an ad. Jello has money but apparently the other guys were hurtin' for cash....

18. But dude....
Navarro is porking Carmen Electra! If I were in his shoes, I'd be pretty damned satiated. What does he need money for? He's banging CARMEN ELECTRA, fer crissakes.

Eric Avery, I can see needing cash. He hasn't done much since JA.

Stephen Perkins keeps busy, though. He was in a band with Mike Watt and does lots of session work.

Still, even though my fandom for JA has waned a whole heck of a lot since 1992 or so, I can't say that I feel anything but queasy about this whole greazy buziness.

But like an above poster said, at least it's better than a Porno for Pyros reunion.
