goals: tell or don't tell...
What's your opinion? If you have a goal, regarding personal development, do you enlist help by telling those close to you about your goal, or do you keep it secret?

The first option gives you the leverage of having folks close to you remind you and help encourage you; the downside is when you crap out you feel somewhat humiliated -- the latter option allows you the "secret" satisfaction of knowing you're doing your goal, all by yourself; the downside: when you're ready to give up you have only yourself to rely on and it's easy to just give up.

What's your opinion?

1. I'm in a "breakfast club" that meets once a week.
We discuss our goals etc. It is tough love sometimes when you get singled out and hard questions are asked. I've been on both ends and it is a eye opening, but definately positive experience.

2. Better not to tell, I've found.
Because when people ridicule you for your goals, or question their validity, it can really throw you off track.

3. thanks
Swede and InvisibleTouch,

Those are both great replies, but I'm still where I started when I asked the question. I'm old enough to have experience both ways.

I'm about to turn 40 this week and I've put this age-turning point as a place where I'll make up my mind with regards to certain goals. I'm leaning towards "not telling".

I hope I hear from others; but it is DU lounge. LOL.
