I wish I could sing.
I mean I wish I could sing well. I can sing but I sound like a dying cat that's just had it's tail stepped on. x(

Maybe I could some how rig a device to steal Annie Lennox's voice.. yeah that would be good.

1. Let's start at the very beginning.....a very good place to start
When you read you begin with A, B, C.
When you sing you begin with Do, Re, Mi

I'm just no good at it. I don't even have the bad sort of voice that makes you famous like Bob or something.

But I still do it. You've had the power to sing all along! Same goes for your brain, scarecrow!

(sing it!)

30. Well, to be honest, it's a chicken and egg problem.
It can be uncomfortable singing unless you already sound good, which can only be learned by lots of singing.

If you sound yucky, you're less likely to enjoy singing, so you're less likely to wanna practice, and your singing will actually get worse over the years. It's a vicious cycle.

I say, screw the embarrassment factor and get yourself on the opposite spiral. Start singing. No matter how awful you think you are. Just go for it. And often too.

Sing in the shower. In your car. Sing softly if you're worried about bothering other people. But sing. Somehow. Some way. Sing.

Learn to use your voice. The muscles and breathing we use for everyday casual talking are somewhat different than the ones we use for singing. You have abilities. Everyone does. But they're undeveloped after years of neglect.

At first, just get used to changing pitch and staying on a note. You can always get a teacher or tips from other singers later.

Personally, I was never much of a singer until I had my first kid. Then all of a sudden, I really wanted to hum and sing to the baby. I was a total beginner, but luckily nursury songs and lullabys are easy melodies with words almost everyone knows.

That got me started. Now I inflict karaoke upon my friends. Hey, they give me encouragement and beer. Why not indulge a little?

:)

I love to sing but I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. My dad sings well. Both my daughters sing well. I'm hopeless. :(

Maybe we ought to go out sometime and see how fast we can clear out a karaoke bar. :banghead:

34. you can learn to sing...
I was once "tone deaf" and have since learned to sing in tune. It takes a lot of work and requires constant practice. But once you learn, it is so fun that "practice" isn't really practice.

My suggestions:

1) buy a guitar and learn simple three cord songs (makes singing a lot easier).

2) pluck a string (in your vocal range) and try to sing it. Sing loud. When you get "on pitch" think about what it sounds like to be in tune.

3) when you can do this easily, pluck two strings at once and try to sing the two notes. this wil GREATLY improve your ear.

4) start singing the simple songs (louder is better)

5) sing along with the radio

You'll be singing in tune in no time.

once the revelation on how to be "in tune" is made, then progress is really fast. (but it does take a bit of practice)
