why would my computer start beeping?

Check your manual, my computer beeps when somethings wrong withmemory or something. All kinds of beeping are described in the manual

9. I have noticed that there is something that keeps coming into my pc

the pc icon on the tool bar keeps showing that something is incoming when there is no reason for it. it's not steady incoming, has long pauses, but something is coming in in flashes.

If the computer is just being turned on, then I'd check the video card. (If I recall, 1 long followed by 3 short beeps is for RAM.)

If it's beeping after the computer has been on for a while, check out the heatsink. The CPU is likely overheating.

after turning the pc off and on again the beeping has stopped but whatever is incoming is still doing that.

15. If you have a firewall installed you are probably

under attack. This beep is an audible signal letting you know. Click the flashing icon and it will probably tell you more.

16. Do you have an UPS?

At times out of nowhere my UPS will beep when there is a power gliche. (There will be absolutely no signs of power loss, but my UPS has deteched a small gliche.)


When this first happened I had no idea what caused it. I got into work (which is right down the road) and I found out that a power gliche caused several systems in our lab to fault.

19. Sounds like a Memory.....

either Ram or Video error.

1. Make sure your fan (fans) are working.....take off the case and
make sure.

2. Depending on your Bios, 2 beeps usually means video problems.

3.If problem starts after good start-up, it sounds like a heating problem (fans not working)....depending on how your
video card is set up.

4. This can be serious and costly, so make sure everything is working (cooling) or you'll be at compusa or Best buy soon!

20. thanks everybody for the advice

I'm thinking it's virus attacks (fan is working fine and it has stopped beeping).

I pay norton for protection but there is an error and I can't pull it up to see what is happening. (been this way a long time) haven't done anything about it as the updates install ok and I've not had a virus. I just can't see what the stats say.

ZoneAlarm does that when it blocks an incoming intrusion attempt. 'This behavior is by design.'

22. Mine did that and it turned out to be my CD drive had went out.

The technician who fixed it said he didn't know why I had heard those beeps but I know I did and whatever he did fixed it so who knows?
