Don't you just hate it when you go to all the trouble of figuring out what
to get someone for their birthday, and they bust out with an off-hand "Don't get me anything, seriously."

WTF?

:grr:

It wouldn't OCCUR to him that maybe I WANT to???

He has no idea how much I've been trying to think about it, figure it all out, plan out what to get him. And to just say "nah, don't get me anything." It's insulting and I can't quite verbalize why.

:grr:

2. Do you get him something every year?
Do you make the day special every year? Does he get you a gift every year? If so, then he should shut up and take his damned gift. :P

But no, he's made me mad. I'm not getting him a damn thing.

That was stupid of him. I was going to get him Crown Royal, a gift certificate for DVDs, a highly violent computer game, and dinner at the restaurant of his choice.

Ah well! He said not to get him anything!

Oh and I forgot: I was also going to get him his FAVORITE dessert ever: a cherry cheesecake.

15. Ok.
Actually I saw something in a gift basket catalog that was right up your alley: all these little yummy gourmet goodies and the whole thing was golf-themed. Damn you, you're in my head now!

17. No way! That'll be great!
And I STILL have to find lodging. Crispini and her group took every room in that bed and breakfast.

3. That's when you get him something he doesn't want like a hampster...
a totally useless creature that is too cute and furry to let loose to die in the wild, but is a huge poop machine.

4. Just to be spiteful-
Get him something, or do something nice for him... without regard for the rules. A kiss. Maybe you could moon him. Give him a traffic ticket. Dress up like a gorilla. But if I were you, I'd do SOMETHING to commemmorate this day.

7. Since he told you not to get him anything,
get him THREE things. I feel a good threefold punishment is in order.

Failing that, give the gift to your internet boyfriend...

8. Get him a gift because you want to, not because he wants anything
You want to get him something because this means something good to you (thinking about what to get, getting it and giving it). Just say "I know you don't want or need anything, but I like getting/giving a gift to you because it makes me feel good". He just sees it differently (speaking from experience here and speaking of my own experience, not you or your person's because I've never even met you). Sort of like I want to be taken care of when I'm sick, he wants to be let alone, so we're constantly mad at each other when sick, though it got better once we figured out that we weren't uncaring for the other, just different.

9. Ok, here's the plan...
...get the present for the person anyway. At the same time, get a nice card.

Put birthday wishes on the card, and include the following text:

I respect your wish that I not get you any birthday presents. I did notice, however, as I came in the building, a box that somebody, an anonymous admirerer perhaps, left on your doorstep with a note to you. Perhaps this might be a good time to check it out? I didn't notice any ticking noises, but...

And do not, under any circumstances, cop that you actually DID get the present...cause half the present is the game.

(by the way, if the present is a clock, you might want to change the last part of the note.)

10. Better than "oh you shouldn't have" and next time he doesn't
"I thought you said I shouldn't've?" It's my way of saying oh thank you for taking so much time and trouble to find just the right thing and for thinking of me so much. It doesn't mean I don't like it and never do that again. Ohhhhhhh

...or is it because it's nearly 5am?
