my camera.. :(
Was transferring pictures from my fuji e550 to my laptop and went into the kitchen to check on my tapioca pudding I was making.. here comes my 2 yr old daughter with the camera and the zoom lens is broke :(

Bought this for hubby for xmas since he never had a digtal before and he told me NOT to let the kids ANYWHERE near it... Called him up and I told him I dropped it and I contacted Fuji.. they want from 70 for a minor repair to 150 for a major repair :( guess what I'm probably going to end up paying.

So.. tell me if I did the right thing here.. I went on Fuji and they have an extended 5 year warranty for my camera for $89 bucks. I bought that and I'm HOPING they'll cover it. I'm not in the system yet with my contract since I just bought it 1/2 hr ago.

My hormonal self is in tears right now and I cant believe I was that dumb :(

1. Well, sh*t happens
It's only a material object. Imagine your two year old daughter with an analogous injury and then be happy!

2. I agree..
but the camera wasnt cheap and hubby would be bitching at me for 2 months about it. If it wasnt for his incessant yapping about things I wouldnt care.

3. Sounds like he has some issues, as they say,
and needs to learn to calm down. Like the previous post said, it's just a thing. And even expensive things can be replaced.

Marriages, once broken, are not so easy to repair or replace. Remind Hubby of that.

Things break. (That's why we have a policy in this house of never, ever buying expensive drinking glasses. They're going to get broken, especially when you have kids around, so why have ones that are expensive enough to bet upset about?)

4. I usually dont buy expensive things..
with soon to be 3 kids running around, my house needs everything bolted down as is.

I try telling him that but he was brought up that way so its harder to change. I nicked the car one day and I thought he was going to keel over.

Can you say early hypertension situation?

6. Whenever something broke when I was growing up
My great grandmother would say "And let all the bad luck go with it". And this was from a woman who raised helped raise her grandchildren during the depression.

5. Well..It looks like your little Daughter will.....

...be getting an "After Kindergarten" Job a lot sooner than you imagined!

Shoot..I know you feel bad but as they say ...Stuff Happens.
Your Hubby should be understanding...if he's not.
In a few weeks the Camera will be Fixed and all will be well but (Again) I know what you're feeling and at least, it's just temporary..

On Edit: One of my friends just "Piped in" with what he did...It's slightly sleazy..but..when he broke his camera, he went to wal-mart and bought one to use while his was getting fixed..2 weeks later he took it back to Wally and told them he didn't like it..

7. No it was my fault..
I left it out on my laptop which she knows not to touch.. so technically it IS my fault. She thought it was funny that it was beeping at her lol.

Wasnt upset that she broke it.. Just the expense that I dont have to fix it to spare. His cars alternator just went.. had to spend 100 at the dentist today to get a crack filled..

I need a job and no one will hire me almost 5 mo pregnant. So.. I'm kinda strapped and hormonal :)

9. When I got my husband's camera, they tried to sell a warranty like that
to me; but I didn't buy it. The salesperson told me that it was really important because it would cover damages caused by dropping the camera. I'll bet you're ok...

10. I ALWAYS buy extended warranties for the following:
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 05:40 PM by Mr. Flibble
Scanners

Cameras (digital or film)

Anything with a LCD monitorin it, including TV sets (and I ensure the backlight is covered in the warranty because they'll often try to make that an exclusion, it's VERY expensive to have fixed and I don't like feeling ripped off anyway.)

Printers (higher-end ones, as a prosumer/professional I demand no less)

If it's solid state (no moving parts) or is a CD- or DVD- burner, I wouldn't. Costs too much because everyone knows the built-in laser ultimately dies of thermal death anyway, and prices continue to plummet.

You did the right thing with getting that warranty and that's a good camera model too.

And don't berate yourself too much, we all make mistakes.
