DU'ers I need good site for cheap air fares. I'm planning a trip.
Edited on Sun Oct-19-03 01:05 AM by Booberdawg
I'm planning a trip in about a month. It's not that I can't google a few on my own - I have not flown since Christ left Chicago and wouldn't have a clue where I could get the best deals. I assume I could do better by booking several weeks in advance which is why I am asking now.

Any frequent travelers that could give me some tips?

Linda

5. I like travelocity
If you aren't particular on the dates you can click on search nearby dates for lower fares. Sometimes they have a super fare that they guarantee the dats but not the time. You have to buy it before you find out and don't get the flier miles but if you don't care it can be a lot cheaper.

Of course if southwest is in your market try them too since they don't buy in to the other search engines.

Look at cheaptickets.com

iflyswa.com, even though it's out of Midway and they're just as pricey as everyone else, unless you want a one-way.

travelocity.com will give you a good look at many different fares, they will charge you a fee if you buy on their site, which you can often avoid by booking directly with the airline on their website.

Example, recently I found a ticket through travelocity with American, and I went to aa.com, booked it there, got 1000 bonus miles and saved $5. It was more of the miles than anything else. American is always running good deals out of chicago.

10. Just bought a Christmas round trip for daughter
After pricing some of those mentioned here, I got the best deal for the time/dates we wanted directly from Continental Airlines (http://www.continental.com/)with an internet option. It cost a little bit more from them over the phone. Orbitz (http://www.orbitz.com/) was competitive for the same arrangement. Note this for a round trip between two specific cities.
