7. I know you meant it in fun
I am not one to lecture anyone on their style of humor.

But if you remove it I'll give you a  and a cookie. :-)

9. I'm not very noticable often but you are
Unless I ask questions about crushing cigarettes or why people own handguns or give rude comments and even then I'm not very noticable. And I've been gone for a couple wks. But now you notice me so thanks and hi to you too.

I'll call shortly... just took care of cancelling my Columbia House and BMG memberships... long overdue!

Need to cancel History Book Club and Book of the Month too. Simplify! Tired of wasting stamps too.

19. my mother called me white trash tonight
and my husband said he hated everything I was wearing and that I looked like shit. My niece was passed over for a scholarship to NAU in favor of some Canadian volleyball player, and I'm just sad. Can I have a hug, please?

23. yup, Flagstaff... she was their #2 choice.
I really, really want to be openminded but I'm kinda pissed that they recruited out of the country and took the Canadian girl.

My sister and brother-in-law are both NAU grads, too; the school even poo-poo'd alumni. Their family moved out of Flagstaff several years ago but had lived there for 15 years, I used to visit them frequently when I lived in LA. We'd go to Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Mormon Lake Lodge for dinner, to the Anasazi cliff dwellings. I loved it there. One spring we were driving somewhere, I can't recall, but we passed this huge field (on the way to the Snow Bowl, I think) just filled with sunflowers. It took my breath away. I also love the aspen groves.

24. It may work out for the best
NAU has degenerated into a frat boy party school, and has lost a lot of its luster (I live in Flag - the CA avatar is heralding my move this summer). Nowadays, they make more headlines for drunk drivers, campus assaults, and the growing conservative presence on campus than they do academic achievements. The fact they overlooked the family of alumni only adds to their general deterioration.

I think she will get a better offer at a better school. I wish her luck!

(It is beautiful here, but I am no longer a fan of ice and snow, and there was too much for me this year... also too expensive for the low wages they pay here)

25. Hm, I hadn't heard that about NAU. That's too bad...
my brother-in-law played basketball for them and he and my sister had a lot of fun in college. They also moved b/c of low wages; they're both teachers and the third or fourth year in a row the locals had voted to freeze salaries and refuse cost of living increases for teachers, he and my sister said "outta here!" It was damn cold and icy, too, and when the wind picked up it was just bitter; my niece was born a frigid January night and I don't think anyone in my family has ever been as cold as we were getting to the hospital.

I hope you love California! I was born and raised in SoCal, undergrad in San Diego and grad in L.A.... it's a lovely state, but very different from when I was growing up in the 70s & 80s (just seemed to be a population explosion in the late 80s and 90s, all my beloved orange groves are gone).

'gnite, and thanks for the hug.

27. Born in San Diego here
And I agree that is sure would be nice to be like it was in the 70's and 80's, but my heart leads me back there for reasons transcending the teeming masses and chaos that is southern CA. :-)

You're welcome.

28. yep!
It's actually my home state, but being a nomad, it has taken me a long time getting back. Last lived there in 1979, but I was a child, and had no say on where I would go next. :-) Jobs had a way of dictating that too. Not now. My heart has the say so this time.
