No one calls my home phone except my bf and my mother, though often she is reason to have caller id ;-) I decided it wasn't worth $8/month for caller id. It's been 4 days since I've canceled and I swear I'm getting more telemarketing calls than ever.

I'm conflicted, as someone who's done phone banking I know how it is to be hung up on or rude to, but I also hate being disturbed at home.

Perhaps, it's time to go cell only.

1. Try the Federal No Call, if you can still get on.

4. I'm on. Sad to say, but a lot of calls are from various orgs that I
donate to or related ones. Got one from the DNC the other day. It was so loud in the background and the caller so muffled, I couldn't hear much more than "D-N-C."

I have never and will never donate over the phone. Solid history of donating via the internet, don't know why they bother

7. I sadly have worked for one of those for 6 weeks.
Got fired. They talk about how it is grassroots and you get to talk to Democrats all day long. But you are dealing with many who just don't want to donate over the phone. I always had to ask high, and for a credit card number. I didn't always do that. It frustrated me to no end. I also had a misunderstanding with one person and that is why I got let go. I have looked at activism jobs and am wary in that if I have to call people on the phone for money, then I will not do such a job.

2. Telemarketers block their #s so you can't call them back. Cowardly fuckers
Caller ID is not worth it when people are allowed to block their numbers, especially the corporate weasels preying on us chickens.

3. I'm all cell and I love it. I've been telemarketer free for 3 yrs.
With my digital cable pkg, I have it if I want it because it's basically the same price as without, but I never even plug the phone in the wall.

My own mother doesn't even know my home number anymore, nobody on the planet knows it except telemarketers. Lookin' at a car and the sales guy wants my number? Sure I'll give it to you.

5. How are you telemarketer free? Do you give your cell # out?
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 07:53 PM by sbj405
I like my cell b/c I never give it out for crap. I'm afraid that if it were my only number it would get out and about on these. My bf is all cell and he's always getting telemarketer calls as it's his primary number.

8. He could have gotten it unlisted.
Though his carrier would still bug him from time to time.

9. I NEVER give my cell number when I give a number. It's either
my home...which I only give to people when I know that I never want to actually hear from them, but I'm not technically lying because I actually do own a phone number (and dusty phone in the closet.)

I have never once had a telemarketer call me on my cell phone, which I have used almost exclusively for 5 years.
