Free Republic - Help, How Does One Navigate Over There??

I have no trouble following DU system. It is simple and easy to track who, what, where and when on subjects.

So I went over to Free Republic to see what they are saying. And I can't figure it out. Is there a central web page that kinda approaches understandability?

Don't get up set at me. I know it is not DU's place to help sort out others's messes, but the people here at DU do have a good handle on figuring out the "square root of one." How does one navigate FR?

1. It's a mess

There is no good way to instruct you on navigating that sight. With all the money they have poored into it and all the contacts they seem to have you would think that they would upgrade it

4. I've been over there before and their layout is a train-wreck.

I guess they understand it because they're used to it, but I have a better layout on a non-political messageboard I own and moderate and I pay next to nothing for it.

and some meth from the lab out back. Put your autographed picture of tom delay where you can see it and navigate away. Its a mind altering experience, which I haven't had in a long, long time and will never have again.

Seriously, that place is a cesspool where you're unlikely to read anything remotely enlightening or informational. If you're visiting "that place" for its entertainment value, let me recommend re-runs of the PTL Club or watching paint dry.

10. Just do a key word search on the site and then organize it by post time

If I read a story here and want to see how the FReeps are reacting that seems to work more often than not.

Of course, any story or article that can't be spun to their side will never make an appearance or will be locked within minutes.

14. It's hopeless

They're all on ping lists there so they can be notified when topics they want are posted. The only real way to find anything there is to scroll through the latest topics, then look for links to similar topics in the messages, if you can make it that far.

There is a search function, but it doesn't work very well. You either get back way more than you can scroll through or you get nothing.

It's quite apparent their website was designed by a group of grade school students as an HTML class project. And you might have an advantage in figuring out what they are talking about if your parents were first cousins.

of each post there's a link that says something like . This will take you to the post that is being replied to.

Or, you can just read straight down.
