Should I watch Desperate Housewives for the first time?
I haven't seen it,but a good friend says he and his wife love it as do their three daughters (age 10-15). I see it has Bob Newhart and Leslie Ann Warren in it tonight. I assumed it was a sexist piece of junk with laugh track, but maybe I am wrong? I'm on the west coast, so it's just coming on now.

thanks

1. I loathed it
Saw it once, wondered what the big deal was.
And yes, it's sexist.

2. Yes ! !
I just started watching it in December. It is hilarious. Best show on in a long time, IMO.

3. Yes. I saw the commercials and
thought it would be stupid, but found it's a riot.

4. I LOVE Desperate Housewives!!!!
It's funny as hell, it's well written, the acting is terrific and I don't find it sexist at all. (I'm a woman.) I think the ladies definitely know how to handle their men. B-)

5. HELL no! It's a soap opera with more sleaze.
It's a smarmy piece of crap about women who have nothing better to do than have affairs and kill people. The crowning touch, the salt in the wound, is the cynical, contemptuous voiceover by the ghost of the woman who died in the first episode. It proves that the dead do hate us as much as George Romero suggests.

I'm sure some pseudo-feminist will claim that it's "empowering to women" - and it is, in the sense that it proves women can be as violent, sex-obscessed and stupid as men. (However, not as stupid as the people who watch the show.)

And Bob Newhart looked like a tragic case on the show. Not only did he look like Father Time dragged him into an alley and beat the crap out of him, there was nothing of his personality and style in the show except his hesitant stutter. I seriously hope he's okay.

(By the way, since I work in TV, I had no choice but to watch it. My penance for doing that was watching the lame Gen X medical nonsense "Grey's Anatomy" on after it.)

8. I watched Deadwood at 6 pm PST
My husband likes it, but I haven't gotten into the characters yet; I like the women though. Very strong. It ain't Bonanza!

9. Well, I am watching it as we speak
So far, it seems like Sex in the City with married women. Well, none of the graphic sex shots, but the same switching from scene to scene and very, very similar music.

Interesting to see Lesley Ann Warren. I always liked her as an actress. Remember her in Victor Victoria?

10. Seems to be derivative of Sex in the City
and also Malcolm in the Middle. The music in particular makes it seem like Sex in the city.

I guess that is a compliment to those shows, in terms of copying their MOAs.

I keep wondering about my friends girls ages 10-13 watching this. Well, why not?
