8. Great pitcher with a sad history. If he hadnt suffered what he did he
may have been the best ever.

12. He totally dominated batters in the late 70's....
I almost said Dennis 'Oil Can' Boyd. I sure loved him. Never put it all together though.

13. Richard was 6'8" 260 lbs and could throw some serious HEAT.
Several years ago he found living under a bridge in LA, homeless. An ex-ballplayer, I cant remember who it was, found him and took him in. The players union or veterens commitee put some money together to help him get back on his feet again.
What could have been???

15. If you remember he was accused by the media and....
Astros management of being lazy when he first started complaining of trouble with his arm. He missed some starts and everybody was jumping on him. Then he had that stroke. Helluva a way to prove your critics wrong.

18. Marichal would won 6 Cy Young awards if it werent for Koufax pitching
in the same league at the same time.

24. Agreed. Marichal was a hero of mine from early years --
-- and god do I miss having someone like that on the scene now.

And by the way, your choice of Mr. Gibson below is right-on. I saw the man pitch a handful of times in old Crosley Field and he threw flames of fire, not baseballs.

What a pitcher he was.

19. If Ryan hadnt pitched for all those BAD Astro and Angel teams he may
have won over 400 games.
In 1986 he went 8-16. But he had the lowest ERA in the majors and struck out 300.

17. My dad would say "Spahn or Sain or pray for rain".
From when they were Boston Braves.
Dad would go to Braves games when only 400 fans would show up at the park.

20. Spahn was a great pitcher and a war hero too
My dad got me his autograph through the strangest way, dad was waiting tables at a Marriott a few towns over and Spahn was there, he also met Ted Williams that night too.

21. My Dad met him. He was a Braves ballboy for a season. At the time
nobody wanted to be a bat or ballboy for the Braves. For the Sox, it was a different story. The Braves were pathetic. A politician friend of my grandfather got my dad the job after many other kids REFUSED to be associated with the Braves. This was 1946 when the Sox won the AL pennant.

22. Still a cool job
Yeah I remember that Babe Ruth's last team of the Boston Braves was one of the worst teams ever actually. Spahn was actually a good hitting pitcher, something I Would have loved to had when I played but my pitching prime was only 3-4 seasons, finally got promoted to a higher league and I guess they didn't see my usefulness, held on for a couple more seasons than quit.

27. I lived about 5 blocks from Veteran's Stadium in 1982....
I used to go to all the Phillies home games for military price. Saw Lefty pitch several times. He was awesome. Every games was a no-hitter going into the 9th. Weird man, great pitcher.

30. Great pitcher. Shame he's a RW-whacko, anti-semite who routinely
blamed the problems of the world on the "Elders of Zion". The guy is out there.

29. walter johnson was baseball's best pitcher.
god, look at the percentage of games he won for his team each year. no one comes close to him.

he holds the record for winning 1-0 games and losing 1-0 games. 10 straight 20 win seasons,

had he played for the As or Yanks, instead of washington, a perennial door mate in the AL he would have been the most famous player in pre-ww II baseball.

32. Rollie Fingers - if you want a reliever
One of the greatest when it came to working under pressure situations when the chips were down. Hall of Famer, Cy Young Winner, MVP winner, with 341 career saves. He never made it as a starter, but what a relief pitcher he was and what a slider he had.
