What celebrities are on your list?
You know, the list of famous people you're allowed to get it on with even if you're in a relationship and it won't count as cheating. I dated one girl who kept adding people to her list all the time. If she actually wrote them down her list would have been around 100 celebrities.

For this thread, let's say you have to narrow it down to seven people because I couldn't narrow it down to five.

Mine are:
Drew Barrymore
Jewel
Jennifer Connelly
Ludivine Sagnier
Kirsten Dunst
Alicia Silverstone
Jenna Elfman

I guess there are several patterns in my choices. :)

Hillary Clinton
Drew Barrymore
Cyndi Lauper
Linda Perry
and
Anne Richards (this one is very sexy if you pay attention)

2. Interesting list
I might put attractive daughters of famous political figures on the list but you went right for the strong women in power. Cool.

I'm still fascinated by the fact that 99% of all women find Angelina Jolie attractive. She could win a lot of free toasters.

7. I like to be led by strong
women. What can I say? Angelina is a total goddess. I think a piece of paper would find her attractive. Beds and chairs have got to be the envy of the furniture world if she graces them with her bodily presence. Delightful.

I was a bit stunned that you included Drew Barrymore on your list. Intelligence obviously isn't a criteria for you. She was on the Daily Show this week. What a twit.

And yea, I do find that picture and any other of Charlie Rose attractive. Many women who appreciate smart men like him. When I did the favorite TV personality thread a month or so ago, at least one other woman said she liked him. Besides, he's very conventionally handsome. Jon Stewart is a more unusual choice in terms of looks, but then lots of women on DU like him.

She's quite charming, and she showed common sense and strength enough to get through very tough situations. I didn't include her on my crush list, because I haven't been able to see myself in a long-term relationship with her. In fact, American Idol contestent Carrie Underwood is closer to making my list right now. But I can see your attraction to Drew. :hi:

I like smart and witty. That makes a man attractive in my book. A lot of women don't necessarily have physical characteristics as the top of the list when judging attractiveness. I think that's why most female celebrities are rail thin and traditionally attractive, while male celebrities run the gamut.

I get it. But the fact that she appeared on so many lists in this thread made we think there might be something else to her popularity.

I personally don't go for the ditsy type, male or female. That's the main reason I find Ashton Kutcher so insufferable. I like movie stars who seem more sophisticated.

119. "butterface" has nothing to do with weight, if I understand it right
I think it's based on what some men say when they see a woman with an average face but a beautiful body: "Wow! She has a fantastic body, but her face...."

I'm not saying it's right to say it, I'm just saying.

Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 08:42 PM by imenja
If it doesn't have to do with weight, why did the poster posit "fit" women in opposition to "butterfaces"?

This sort of thing is as common as can be. One just hopes for better among liberals. But more likely it simply demonstrates that stated political positions have little to do with someone's personal actions.

for using a term you demonstrate you don't even know what the meaning of is.

And I assure you I love women more than you do, even the ones you slander as being underweight just like the sensitivity police tell you to for the sake of fat people feeling better about being fat.

122. Your meaning was entirely clear
Though you've managed to deflect my comments that were directed at you onto other women, which is hardly surprising. I in no way attacked women who are thin or underweight. My comments were about sexism and misogyny.

The death penalty statement was a joke, an expression of frustration over how offensive I found your comments. I did not slander anyone for being underweight. I merely pointed out that a man who would refer to women of a medically normal weight or women who are underweight as "butterfaces" is a chauvinist. Really, chauvinist is far too polite of a term to be descriptive. It is misogyny pure and simple. You clearly juxtaposed the term "butterface" with "fit." So trying to slither away from the remark now does you no good. I said nothing about obese or overweight women. That you infer some sort of correlation again reveals deep seeded sexism. If a woman is not underweight, evidently she is obese. There are medical standards to determine such things, and all of the women mentioned in this thread are well within or below their medically specified weight range. Comments that insist that that women must be at an unhealthy weight to be attractive are misogynistic. You thus engage in discourse that subordinates and infantilizes women.

There is no requirement that men like normal weight women, overweight women, or women at all. You are entitled to your preferences of course. But you were not content to simply express your own choices. You instead feel a need to attack women other men find attractive as "butterfaces," and in doing so you make clear your views on women more generally. Such ideas are entirely common. They are repeated in the dominant media thousands of times a day. We live in a patriarchal culture that imposes unrealistic standards of beauty on women as a way of disempowering them. Society has erected such standards just as women have ascended in the public sphere. For men to feel less threatened by the fact that they have to compete with women on an economic and political plane, they impose unrealistic cultural norms. These are familiar themes to anyone who has read anything about gender, power, and beauty in recent American history. Backlash by Susan Faludi is a popular account of such ideas. The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf is another.

And yes, it's politically correct. Just like the Fourteenth Amendment and Voting Rights Act are politically correct. One hopes men who call themselves liberals or progressives will reach for a degree of enlightenment on such issues, but obviously far too many do not. Denouncing and valuing women based on appearance makes it easier to reconcile the fact they may not be as smart or accomplished as some of the women they encounter in college classrooms or in their professional lives.

I saw him once playing the Ravinia Festival here in Chicago (a very restrained, polite sort of outdoor venue, lots of classical music too) a pack of women rushed the stage. Dn't know what they were hoping to achieve, but he seemed OK with it. :D A straight male friend of mine interviewed him once, and then put him right at the top of his very short "I'd Play for the Other Team for Him" list.

117. I need 7 picks, because I include men and women.
Salma Hayek
Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order: SVU)
Angelina Jolie

Maurice Bernard
Kevin Smith (played Ares in Xena)
Matthew McConaghey
Robert Schwartzman (member of the Coppola clan)

There are lots of others that would require negotiation, but this is the approved list.

That's all I can think of for right now. There are lots of others that I think are physically attractive, but I think family men devoted to their wives are uber sexy. Which is kind of funny, because: 1. They would most likely not be tempted, 2. As the wife of a devoted family man, I have no desire or reason to stray, and 3. If one of these men did have a fling, he would lose most of what attracts me in the first place!

I guess that's why I've been married for nearly twenty years!

143. Teri Polo and Eliza Dushku. After that, suprise me with
any three girls on those Maxin and Stuff "top 100" lists EXCEPT for Paris Hilton or Leann Rhimes, neither of which do anything for me.
