... if you're close to 40, the 'rear entry' would most likely be to check your prostate. Probably embarassing as hell but couldn't be any more painful than what us females have to go through ....

3. He's not cupping your balls

In your pelvic girdle are two tunnels formed from bone. There's a membrane at the top of them. If this membrane breaches, your guts will fall through the tunnel and squish your nuts. (Seriously? If the membrane breaches, you've got a hernia.)

What the doctor is going to do is run his finger up into these tunnels. When you cough, it will make your guts force themselves against this membrane. If they go too far, he knows you've got a hernia. And he's got to do both sides.

The rear-entry procedure is known as a digital rectal exam and it's to check your prostate. In this case, a digit is a finger, which is what's going to be (to put it bluntly) shoved up your ass to check you out. This wonderful experience comes as part of a two-fer: the DRE and a blood test. But don't worry, they're only going to stick you once before tapping off about a quart of blood.
