The female teacher/male student epedemic.
It is interesting. I found one message board about Debra Lafave and it was a little weird. But some people on there were talking about how all of this is part of a growing trend of of older women dating younger men. Ok. We know that more older women are taking an interesting of younger men. I have been hit on by a few women who were about 20 years older than me. They think I am cute. I love how they just tell me that. If I was in a better place in my life, I would jump at the opportunity to date one of them. They make me feel, well, sexy when they flirt with me. And it is all fine and good. I am 25 years old. But someone on that message board said that it is perfectly normal and that she is a 28 year old woman dating a "cute young" 14 year old boy. A guy said he had a female friend who is 38 dating a 14 year old boy. Ok, I have no problem with age disparity in relationships. But a child is a child and it does not matter if the adult in question is less than 10 years older than the child. They may be bigger and all, but they are still developing physically and mentally. This is not a cut and dry situation either, but for the most part adults dating younger adults is fine, but adults dating children is wrong.

1. IMO, there is nothing normal about a 38 year old woman
dating a 14 year old boy. It is as disgusting as a 38 year old man dating a 14 year old girl.

8. Not so, entirely

That people married and had children much younger "back then" is largely a myth. For instance, in the Renaissance, the average age for marriage of a man was 28, and for a woman, 23.

I suspect that at least in America, there was a lot of "frontier" mentality around.

7. I doubt it
I mean yes, older women are dating younger men--and that is fine, but if you mean older women dating young teenagers, Nah, I doubt it is an epidemic. Though we have heard a good deal of late about horny older female teachers and their teenage students--but I doubt that is an epidemic either.

6. They say it around here, too: where does the sexism lay?
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 08:04 PM by Nevernose
However, if I were to go out and have a sexual relationship with one of my 13-14 year old FEMALE students, the vigilantes would have me well before I even made it to court.

I'm not sure where the sexism lies:

Do people think that 13 year old girls are naturally pure and not given to sexual thoughts? Do people think that boys are naturally more promiscuous than girls (actually, given the biology of testosterone, that part's often true, at least as far as libido is concerned). That it's okay for a male kid to do it but not a female kid? That a man who molests a child is Satan Incarnate, but a woman who does it is "reacting to the trend for women to date younger men" or is somehow not at fault because of her gender or previous experiences?

Complicated issue.

9. I'm really torn about this
The adult in me says the idea of a thirty-something woman exploiting a young teenage boy is horrible. Then I think back to when I was thirteen, and how I would have ran over hot coals in order to get it on with some of my teachers. I don't know what to think!

10. I didn't have very many teachers that were that high.
My 6th grade homeroom teacher was pretty good looking. Though, when I was a 17-year-old junior in High school, I had a 26-year-old hot World History teacher. She was hot!!! If I were out of high school and she wasn't married, I would have jumped at a chance with her.
