I missed American Idol

I just started watching it three weeks ago, and now I'm sorta hooked. Yeah, it's stupid. But I find it actually intriguing - it readily admits that pop stars are totally manufactured creations. This show just acknowledges it and makes it widely known.

So... who sucked tonight? Who was good?

On Nashville Star, by contrast, they are looking for a tabula rasa that can easily become an interchangeable cog in the Country Music machine. Being a "company man" is more important than being a fully realized entity in one's own right.

I like dreadlocks. But his pitch is getting worse and worse.

The others did fine, but nothing really outstanding.

is consistently good. Constantine had his, in my opinion, the best performance last night. I liked Bo's performance and I thought Nadia was great.

Scott was the worst performance of the night, IMO. I just don't get what's so special about Vonzelle or Anthony Federov (someone care to explain?)

Anwar has been off pitch a lot lately.

I am just happy that Mikalah Gordon is not there any more!!!!

13. I didn't see it, but I am really hoping for Constantine. Mostly because

he's not afraid to take a risk and also because Simon seems to hate him so much. If Simon hates them, I end up adoring them. :hi:

--enough to turn anybody off. But I guess it was a challenge to see if they could resurrect any of them. Mostly failures in that quest.
Randy said Anwar (Stevie Wonder with dreads, powerful voice, mezmerizing smile) was the best technically, while Simon judged his performance "comfortable" (ie. bland). True, Anwar needs to stretch.
"As long as He Needs Me" was judged Most Boring Song. Even Nadia couldn't save it. I like Nadia (Nadia, please don't ever sing that again in your lifetime).
The blond kid did Climb Every Mountain from Sound of Music --be glad you missed that. Simon said "hideous." For once Simon was being kind.
At one point Paula jumped to her feet for standing ovations and then immediately Simon gave the baleful "good...but not great" kiss of death to the singer(I think it was for either Bo or Anwar).
Vonzell did a respectable Streisandesque dirge, but "People (...who need People) is one hard corpse to prop up. Is there a more yucky song to today's ears?
Bo (formerly of Blood, Sweat and Tears?) did something forgettable from Pippen.
Carrie from Oklahoma belted out "Hello, Young Lovers," from South Pacific. Should stick to contempo country.
Nikko (the comeback kid) did West Side Story--at least it wasn't the Karaoke version. Points for that. He's got originality.
Missed Constantine but apparently he held his crowd-pleasing position.

Details are fading. I was doing three other things at the same time.

15. I think Anthony is gone

I personally think Constantine or Scott should go based on my personal aversion to them, but I think the judges really didn't care for Anthony's performance. I am sick of the Constantine mania; he's a scruffy, disgusting lounge lizard. And I don't see what all the fuss is about Scott. I didn't get to hear Vonzell's performance because my husband called right as she started. I think Carrie, Nadia and Anwar did the best.

20. Couldn't agree more about Constantine ...

I just don't get him - Simply having long hair does not make you a rocker! He's not real ... admit it, Constantine ... you were born to do show tunes! And I hate his non-lips. I love Nikko & also really like Bo & Vonzelle. I think Nadia's adorable, but she doesn't have the strongest voice. Carrie's great, but just not my style.

I think Anthony or Scott will go this week.

Next time he sings on that show, watch how he looks at the camera. One week Simon told him he would win if it was "Smoldering Idol" and ever since the idiot has been trying to give the camera a "smoldering" gaze. He's fake and he sucks big time -- he is to American Idol what American Idol is to music.

I almost started one myself. I am afraid to "out" myself as a viewer in real life but I am so addicted.

Show tunes from old-timey musicals. They always have to fight for rights to sing certain songs. I guess only the old ones are in the public domain. I have a degree in theater and I can tell you there are much better songs to sing than what they chose.

First Constantine- you are not Jim Morrison and you never will be. Stop it. Stop it now.

There weren't any outstanding performances.

Carrie technically accurate as always but a horrible song choice.
Anton?- whatever his name is dreadlock dude was sharp a few times.
Anthony was so freakin horrible and his last note was PAINFUL.

Vonzell did the best job with People which is not an easy song to sing at all. She has now pulled off Barbra and Whitney HOuston pretty damn impressive.

Constantine sang and emoted My Funny Valentine. He's basing his whole career on trying to turn 12 year old girls on.

Bo literally blindly picked his song- Corner of the Sky from Pippen. So not a good pick for him. It's supposed to be sung by this innocent boy. He FORGOT the lyrics more than once and mumbled/sang. No one called him on it though but it is unmistakable if you know the song.

I love Nikko but he sang One Hand One Heart from West Side Story. It really doesn't work outside the context of the play and there are so many better songs to sing that it made me sad that he lost this opportunity.

Nadia best performance vocally of hers I ever heard but stil not enough to win in my book.

Scott really could not handle the song he chose, The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha. He sucked so bad.

All in all the worst episode ever. Of course I will keep coming back because I'm an addicted loser. ;-)

That's about it... it was a yawnfest.

But Consantine... damn... as much as I hate his vogueing ass, he was fantastic. Did a rendition of My Funny Valentine that killed, just killed. Not so much for ability as for style, but still.

26. Bo was ok, Nadia kicked ass.

Constantine was good(but I like him). Carrie and Vonzell were good, they have good voices, but I don't like them. Vonzell's performance, in Simon's words and I agree, left me cold. Carrie... I can't stand her. Her voice is shape and really unpleasant to listen to, but that is just me. I try to like her, but I can't.

Everyone else.. did like they always do. I hope Scott goes. Please, oh please.
