1. whether he's innocent or not...
a "press conference" announcing that he is innocent (regardless of how "sincere" he appears to be) before a jury is selected contaminates the judicial process.

3. I'm sure he was advised against it.
Some talking head was saying that yesterday when they asked if he was going to the ESPY awards.

But I think Kobe was thinking about the millions of kids that look up to him, and thought of how he must look to the entire country.

I'd do the same thing.

4. well hasn't the jury pool been contaminated already
the moment there was a TV press release reporting the arrest of Kobe Bryant, the jury pool has been contaminated by a certain degree. Some people can hold out judgement no matter how much publicity there is. However, many more people are swayed by any news given about a case and defendant. Just look at Scott Peterson.

2. I don't really care, but I believe him.
I don't know why this is such huge news, LOL, but I believe him.

I know you can never tell, and if he did it he should pay, but I dunno, I just don't buy it.

And I think it's sad for him.

5. He cheated on his wife
I feel sorry for her, not him. I have not one bit of sympathy for anyone who professes being a Christian who has taken a vow before God to be faithful to their partner--and then cheats on his wife. Now he is on TV "I love her with all my heart." As for the crime, I sympathize with the alleged victim--not the multi-millioniare with the fablulous defence team, publicity department and ass-kissing fans on his side.

8. Does your comment help anyone?
Edited on Fri Jul-18-03 09:46 PM by Blue_Chill
No.

Adultery strikes a sour note for many people, especially those that have been hurt by it. The anger expressed towards Kobe for his action is understandable.

7. We all make mistakes
If Kobe is guilty of nothing more then his admitted adultery, then he must face that sin with his wife and before god. He must repent and he must BEG his wife for forgivness.

It is not up to us to judge this man for his sin.

If however he is guilty of this crime, I hope that justice does not view him as a basketball star and treats him fairly as it would any other.

12. As with Clinton, I think it's a private matter.
If some guy cheats on his wife, that's between them.

But that's no reason to put him in jail. Or impeach him, for that matter. Indeed, IMO, that would be very sad for Kobe. And his family. I should have said as much. They also have a very small daughter (I believe it's a girl), the whole thing is a huge fuckup on his part, and I think he's getting a rude wakeup call now.

If it is somehow proven that he did force this woman into messing around with him, he deserves whatever jailtime he gets. Of course that is inexcusable.

19. My thoughts exactly
It will be a private matter 'if' the jury brings back a not guilty verdict. Until then....

9. "I'm innocent"
The guy says this sitting next to his wife after admitting at a press conference he committed adultery.

Irony - it's a beautiful thing.

14. Maybe the real irony is the obvious...

the accuser getting the media attention she craved after being rejected from another Reality T.V. show - the high class "American Idol."

Anyhoo, surely, a white chick sneaking up to a black man's room after her work shift has ended knows she has the upper hand.

Doesn't ANY woman sneaking up to a celebritie's hotel room secretly know she has the upper hand? Yup.

But, it was interesting to see the white chicks teenage girlfriends laughing at the attention they're getting as they're being interviewed in this tragic, horrific, life-changing event. No surprise there - show me the money!!

21. Are you comparing
Mrs. Clinton and the life of a politician to the life of Kobe?

Son of a Basketball player, paid millions for 'playing' a sport, drafted out of HIGH SCHOOL, and married to the beautiful woman of his choosing.

Yup it's the EXACT same situation.

16. his wife is very pretty
but not only pretty, there is something about her - she is an old soul. She appears to have a wisdom beyond her years. Even years ago as a high-schooler when L.A. Times ran stories about her, she seemed very composed and aware. It's easy to see what Kobe likes about her.

I don't think Kobe did what he's charged with, but he has confessed to adultery and should therefore, IMHO, be indicted for being an idiot.

17. His lawyers are earning their money right now....
They put him out there, along with his wife (who I think should be a little more pissed than she appears). This case is a lot about public opinion as well as the truth and they are going to use it to their advantage.

18. Have you seen the girls friends on TV
my guess is that this young lady is a very attractive, 19-year old who probably threw herself at the basketball star. Mega-sportss stars like Kobe and others have women that just throw themselves at them just for the chance to "be" with him. What happened after that, I do not know. Only Kobe, the girl and maybe guests next door can attest to what really happened. I think Kobe knew better than to even put himself in this situation. However, it seems to me at least, that since it took so long to charge him, there probably was no forceable rape. They both went to the hospital within 24 hours and I am sure she got examined by a doctor with a rape kit. If there was evidence of forceable rape, he would have been in jail with in 24 hours and charges after that the same day. My guess, is that they have her story, witnesses to her coming down crying, and a sample of his seamen found within her gotten from a rape kit. Unless they have witnesses, that would be very difficult to convince a jury of sexual assault.

27. GMA*B
As long as I'm not the only one venting pure opinion, I'll let it fly.
Adultery is foul, and I wonder about the limits of a man who'd cheat on his wife. She just had a baby in January. Tell me this was his only transgression.
And I wonder if he'd have admitted to the adultery if not for DNA. And I wonder about the wife. In her shoes I'd toss him out on his rich ass. I know a lot of women married to rich men who didn't and won't, and it's always the $ they can't live without.
I hope that isn't the case here, but so often it is.
And it turns my stomach to hear his mea culpa and his avowals of love for his wife. He is trying to take the high road there, after having been nailed on the low road.
As for the assault part, we shall see.
