1. Don't worry.
I'm sure some other celebrity will molest a kid or someone else's feeding tube will get pulled out. If we're lucky, someone famous will run over someone else in a mad rage. :eyes:

8. I don't know how the pope figures into that...
I can understand Easter and Schiavo, but the pope? I don't think he was just a publicity stunt...

28. Media Coverage, you think?.
The MSM has been on a orgy of faith, mostly fake faith.

I'll give you a clue. Everytime someone mentions the Pope is not an attack on the Pope.

29. I don't watch the MSM
much, so I guess I'm missing out.

Still, I think this is more an orgy of ritual and pomp, no? That stuff I like.

Anyway, point well taken. The freaking dude who played Jesus in the Gibson movie was on Larry King last night.

Thanks for that laugh. Like the ACTOR who played Jesus has some insight into the Pope's death?

Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 05:58 PM by Tweed
Schiavo I'll grant you. The people extolling her case are hypocrites times ten if they claim they are Christians and voted for Bush among other things.

But the Pope? Leave it to DU not have a single thread about the Pope NOT contain anti-Catholic posts.

24. You do realize that the Pope was against the war, right?
Apparently you also don't know that the majority of Catholics are against the war too. I suggest you do some research before throwing wild accusations around.

30. I never said the Pope was a phony
but all the "Christians" I know in Texas support the war - and a lot of them are Catholic. These are not WILD accusations.

5. Do you need my thread-nuker?
It's a Perl script. Run it on the command line with some arguments to automagically hide threads based on a keyword. Then DU will become even more the haven than it is now.

Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 05:20 PM by imenja
Then you record the news shows you want and forget the rest. For me its the NewsHour and Nightline, and Charlie Rose, though that's not quite news. You can also fast forward through what you don't want to watch. I no longer watch the cable news garbage.

BTW, mine costs about 7 bucks a month.

I go through the schedule pick the few things I do want to see, set the DVR and then fast forward past the junk. It's a sanity saver indeed.

26. I actually think the pomp is kinda cool
Coverage is silly, but the history and ritual I kinda like.

Mourning and crying, though, hardly. He's been going for a very long time. He wasn't snatched up too early or anything.

JFK, I'd cry for, the pope, I'll just be nervous about his successor for a while...

34. I still miss John XXIII when I remember him.
I think with JPII that it still too soon to get an accurate historical appraisal. He was larger than life so one has to do some distancing. My background is Lutheran so I appreciate his reaching out to us as he did.

35. John XXIII was slightly before my time, but
In my mind he's the greatest pope in modern history. I love reformers! I hope we get another like him.

I agree that the outreach to various groups and religions, along with the apologies he made will stand as some of the greatest part of the legacy of PJPII.

36. And it also doesn't effect billions at all.
I could care less if the Pope died or was resurrected, really. And billions share my views.

In other news that actually does apply to everyone, the US economy is going further and further down the shitpipe (world economy based on US consumerism) and the Iraq war is threatening to spread to regional, if not global, conflict in a matter of months.

The coverage is just a smoke screen of easy news that requires no heavy digging or getting one's hands dirty. If the MSM had any scruples, they'd be blaming the Pope, and rightfully so, for the deaths of millions of Africans from AIDS.
