feline fanatics. . .please help this cat I do not know. . .
There is a woman who works in a local store. She has a totally mean husband who wants her dearly departed mother's cat inhumanely declawed tomorrow morning.

A while ago, a bunch of you folks posted stuff about rubber or plastic covers for cat claws that I neglected to bookmark.

We live in the country so I wouldn't dare put my furniture over the welfare of my cat's ability to defend himself. Without claws he would be nothing more than coyote fodder.

Please advise and thanks in advance. A cat's claws are at stake!!!

1. An outdoor cat?
If he is strictly an indoor cat it should be ok, thought I wouldn't do it to my cats, but an outdoor cat will wind up dead without claws.

4. declawing = mutilation

No. He might survive indoors. But he'd have to hobble around with mutilated feet for the rest of his life.

7. Well
that's why I said I wouldn't do it to my cat but most vets don't seem to give it a second thought.

10. that's old-time alleopathic vets
many vets won't do it. The ones that suggest it casually-well, you need to run away!

2. Those tips are called Soft Paws, and they work
http://www.softpaws.com/

Declawing cats are like cutting off their fingers. It is inhumane.

3. hope you get this in time
You might want to look into Softpaws. Softpaws are a durable nail-cover that are glued firmly in place. They come in a variety of colors, and need replacing when the claw is shed. Many vet's offices can apply these.

Declawing is mutilation. A lot of people don't seem to realize this.

Declawing is not at all like cutting fingernails. Fingernails grow again.

Declawing is exactly like removing ALL of a persons' fingertips with boltcutters. What's left is a row of useless, painful stumps.

By accepting her mother's cat, your friend accepted a duty to protect him. I hope she doesn't let anyone mutilate this cat!

5. Agreed. Declawing is mutiliation.
It's the equivalent of cutting of a finger at the first knuckle. That's why the practice is illegal in many places and many vets won't do it.

6. thanks you guys
I feel the same way and would never do this to a living sentient creature.

The woman's appointment for declawing is at 8 am tomorrow so I'm hoping that she got a reprieve from her g-d awful husband, I told her to buy some time and I'd bring her the info tomorrow in the early morning.

Just hoping I convinced her.

Thanks again you guys.

You're all the best and thanks again !

8. good news !!!
The woman cancelled the appointment at the vets for declawing after speaking with me. Then she flipped out on her mean husband ast night and said she wouldn't allow it to be done to the cat. Yay !!!

She asked the vet about "soft paws" and they had no knowledge of them. She said they probably just wanted to make the $800 for the procedure though. I couldn't believe it was that pricey.

$17.95 is a steal. Does anyone have any experience regarding maintenance and replacement with these things though?

I know that my cat's claws shed.

Just wondering further. . .
